Error while using Nitro pro add-in MS word -ARM Devices

We are currently experiencing an issue with the Nitro PDF add-on for Word on our device (Device name: DAU-P7VV25073HH, System type: 64-bit ARM-based processor). Despite having an active subscription, we are unable to add or use the Nitro PDF add-on for mail merge functionality.

Upon contacting your support team, we were informed that the add-on is not supported on ARM-based processors. However, this limitation was not made clear prior to purchase, and it significantly impacts our workflow.

Could you please advise if there is any workaround or alternative solution to enable mail merge functionality with Nitro PDF on our ARM-based system? We would appreciate any assistance or guidance you can provide.

Check with Nitro support at https://www.gonitro.com/user-guide/pro/article/support-tools . Ultimately, they are responsible for their product.

Hi, Thanks for the follow-up. I reached out to the Nitro team regarding the add-on issue, and they confirmed that there is no supporting driver for Nitro Pro on ARM-based processors. We've decided to discontinue using Nitro for now.

    Hi Jatin Patel,

    Welcome to the Q&A Community

I’m here to assist with your problem.

I'm sorry to hear about the frustration with the Nitro PDF add-on for Word—it's understandable, especially if the ARM limitation wasn't highlighted during purchase. Based on available information from Nitro's community forums and related resources, I'll outline the situation, potential workarounds, and alternatives for achieving mail merge to PDF on your ARM-based device (like those with a 64-bit ARM processor, such as certain Surface models).

Nitro PDF Pro and its Microsoft Office add-ins (including for Word) are not officially supported on ARM-based processors. This includes limitations with features like the PDF Creator printer driver, which may not install or function properly on Windows ARM devices. Nitro's system requirements typically specify 64-bit Windows 10/11 (implying x64 architecture), and there's no certification for ARM.  Refer to: Nitro 13 in ARM based processor / Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 - Activation/Installation - Nitro Comm…

While native support isn't available, Windows on ARM includes x64 emulation (via Prism in Windows 11), which can run many non-ARM apps with varying success. Here's how to try it for Nitro:

    Install Nitro via Emulation:

You can refer to: How emulation works on Arm | Microsoft Learn

Add support Arm devices to your Windows app | Microsoft Learn

If Nitro doesn't work, several PDF tools offer similar mail merge capabilities (e.g., merging data from Excel/CSV into PDF templates) and have better ARM compatibility. Many run natively on ARM or via reliable emulation. Here's a selection based on user reviews and features:  Built-in Microsoft Word + PDF Export:

    • Use Word's native Mail Merge feature (Mailings tab > Start Mail Merge) to create merged documents.
    • Then, export to PDF: File > Save As > PDF, or print to the built-in Microsoft Print to PDF driver.
    • This handles basic mail merges without add-ons. For advanced PDF features (e.g., forms, security), combine with the free Microsoft Edge PDF editor, which has native ARM support. Limitation: Not as seamless as a dedicated add-in for direct PDF output.

We appreciate your kind patience and understanding that sometimes the initial response may not immediately resolve the issue or there may be some misunderstandings about your scenario, but we would love to hear updates from you and find out further suggestions.
