    Dear Gary Lewis

Thanks for reaching out! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A. I'm Haien from Microsoft Q&A.
I am very sorry to see that you are having problems with your computer's sound in Windows 11 Pro. However, the information you provided is quite broad. To assist you more accurately, can you share with me more information through the following information:

    • Are you having problems with your computer's built-in speakers or are you having problems connecting external speakers?
    • Have you tried changing the speaker output device in other applications?
    • Have you checked to see if you accidentally muted the speakers?

With the information you provided, there are 2 possible cases:

    • Case 1: The speaker/mic device built into your computer is damaged by the manufacturer
    • Case 2: The speaker/mic device built into your computer is faulty due to the speaker driver being corrupted

For more accurate judgment, you can try these tests and options of mine and can let me know the results of those tests so that I can support you better:

    • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings
      • Under Output, ensure your speakers or headset are selected. If none appear, proceed to the next steps.
      • Under Input, check if a microphone is listed and selected.
    • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Select Playing Audio > click  Run > Follow the prompts to detect and fix issues > Repeat for Recording Audio if the microphone is not detected.
    • Press Windows + X > select Device Manager > Expand  Sound, video, and game controllers > Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Conexant) > select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers
      • If no devices are listed or the issue persists, right-click > select Uninstall device, then restart your PC to let Windows reinstall the driver.
      • Alternatively, download the latest driver from your PC manufacturer’s website (e.g., Dell, HP) if generic drivers don’t work.
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter > Locate Windows AudioWindows Audio Endpoint Builder, and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) > Ensure each is set to Automatic and running.
      • If not, right-click, select Properties, set Startup type to Automatic, and click Start.
