Single Name on Government ID – Need Guidance

My government-issued ID only has a single name: "Manish". There is no last name. The registration portal is asking for a last name. What should I enter to ensure my ID matches on exam day?

Dear Support Team,

I have scheduled my Microsoft certification exam, but I mistakenly entered a last name during registration. However, my government-issued ID only contains a single name: Manish. There is no last name mentioned on my ID.

To ensure smooth verification on the day of the exam, I kindly request you to remove or update the last name from my profile so that it matches my official ID.

Please let me know if any further steps or documents are required from my side.

Thank you for your assistance.

Enter an underscore character _ for your last name

    Hello @Manish (Cognizant),

Based on your answer to Julian, I truly appreciate your effort in finding a resolution. I believe that many users may encounter similar concerns, and your case could serve as a valuable reference for them.

Therefore, I would make a brief summary of this post so that other forum members could easily find useful information here:

Before registering for the exam: Microsoft allows users with a single legal name to enter an underscore (_) in the Last Name field to complete their profile.

User's image However, once you have registered for an exam, this option may become locked, and you are required to raise a support ticket to make any changes.

If you cannot wait for support and need an urgent update, one workaround confirmed by the original poster Manish (Cognizant):

You can cancel your scheduled exam, update your profile, and then book a new exam.

Once again, thank you for your patience and sharing your experience, also contributing to the community; it really helps others understand the issue and find practical solutions.

If you need further assistance, feel free to post a question in this forum. It's not just me; the entire community is always here and happy to help!

    Hello @Manish (Cognizant),

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!

Although your concern is typically outside the scope of my usual support responsibilities, I’ve taken the time to research it, and I’d love to share what I found to help you move forward.

Based your information, I understand that you want to update your legal name in your profile so that it matches your government-issued ID, is it correct?

If I understand correctly, normally, if you have not yet scheduled your exam:

    • You can go to your Settings => Legal Name section via Settings - User | Microsoft Learn and update it.
    • Microsoft allows handling cases where you have a single name by entering an underscore (_) in the Last Name field to complete your profile.

However, since you mentioned that you have already scheduled your exam, you cannot edit this information yourself because your name details have already been synchronized with Pearson VUE or Certiport (the exam delivery provider).

Therefore, you need to contact Microsoft Certification Support by submitting an online support request via Credentials Support

undefined Once again, thank you again for raising this issue; it’s helped broaden my understanding. I hope you understand that I want to help as much as I can within the scope of this forum.

Look forward to hearing from you!
