Hi I am wondering if you are showing as 'away' on teams status does this mean that you are just not using teams or that you are not active on your computer generally?

The answer doesn't really address the full question. It's the "or" that is confusing. Either the answer is

"If you are not active on Teams, it will move to away" OR the answer is "As long as you remain active on your computer (Using mouse or keyboard), you will not show "away" on Teams.

The statement "Even if you are working on other applications like Excel, Word, or PowerPoint, if there is no interaction with Teams or your device remains idle, your status will still show as “Away.” is confusing because you have said two conflicting things:

    1. Even if you are working on other applications like Excel, Word, or PowerPoint, if there is no interaction with Teams
    2. If your device remains idle, which it will not if using "other applications"

    Hi @Louise O'Mahony

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

The “Away” status in Microsoft Teams means you are signed in but not actively using your device:

    • On a computer: Teams will automatically switch to “Away” after a few minutes of inactivity or when your device is locked. Even if you are working on other applications like Excel, Word, or PowerPoint, if there is no interaction with Teams or your device remains idle, your status will still show as “Away.”
    • On a mobile device: Your status will show as “Away” when the Teams app is running in the background, and it will change to “Offline” after 24 hours of inactivity.

You don’t need to close Teams for this to happen, simply being idle in Teams or having your device locked will trigger the “Away” status.

I hope this helps clarify your question. If you have any updates or further questions, please feel free to leave a comment under this post. I’ll be happy to assist further.
