Hello, I recently got a new laptop and I noticed that the “Times New Roman” font is missing from Microsoft Word. Only fonts like Calibri and a few others appear in the list. How can I install or enable the Times New Roman font on my device? I need this font for my documents, but it does not show up anywhere in Word or in the system fonts. Could you please guide me on how to fix this issue? Thank you.

    Hi @Zemra Bushi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how important Times New Roman is for your documents, and I’ll guide you through restoring it on your new laptop.

Times New Roman is a standard system font included with Windows and Microsoft Office. If it’s not appearing in Word or your system fonts, it may not be installed or the font files could be corrupted.

Here are some steps that often help:

1/ Check if the font exists in Windows:

    • Go to Settings > Personalization > Fonts.
    • Search for Times New Roman.
      User's image

If it’s missing, please move to Step 2.

2/ Download and install the font:

    • If you’re using Windows, you can try opening the Windows Fonts folder by hitting Start->Run and typing c:\windows\fonts\Times.ttf. This will bring up a window with an install option at the top. Click “Install” to reinstall the font.
    • Alternatively, you can install it via the Microsoft Store or copy it from another Windows device: Font files are usually located in C:\Windows\Fonts.

    3/ Repair Office installation:

You can follow this: Repair an Office application

4/ Restart Word and clear font cache:

    • Close Word and restart your PC after installing the font.
    • If the font still doesn’t appear, clear the font cache: Delete the contents of %localappdata%\FontCache and reboot.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, could you please tell me:

    • If you’re using Word Online, fonts depend on what’s available in the browser and the document theme. Times New Roman should appear when you open the document in Desktop Word.
    • For enterprise-managed devices, check with your IT admin if font restrictions or policies are applied.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.
