I purchased an original Office Professional Plus 2016 (32/64-bit) license key in 2017 (SCRAP PC license). As of 2025, I am unable to complete the activation process. Please advise how I can successfully activate Office 2016.

Office Professional Plus 2016 is normally a volume license, intended for large corporations. The only exception was if you were able to purchase it via the HUP (Home Use Program); in that case, see https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/workplace-discount-program/order-history .

If you purchased this version from a third-party reseller, you have been scammed, I'm afraid. The license may work for a while, sometimes even for years, but at some point Microsoft will revoke the product key because of invalid use. You didn't do anything wrong; you were scammed, but the end result is that you have now lost the Office product of course.

To activate Office Professional Plus 2016, you can use either Key Management Service (KMS) or Multiple Activation Key (MAK) methods. Here are the steps for both methods:

    KMS Activation:

    1. Ensure you have a KMS host set up. If you do not have one, you can set it up using the Microsoft Office 2013 Volume License Pack.
    2. Activate the KMS host key via the Internet or telephone.
    3. On the client machine where Office is installed, run the ospp.vbs script to set the KMS server and port, and activate Office.

    MAK Activation:

    1. Input your MAK key using the ospp.vbs script.
    2. Activate Office via the Internet or telephone.

If you encounter issues during the activation process, you may need to troubleshoot using the ospp.vbs script to check the activation status or error codes. You can run ospp.vbs /act to attempt manual activation and see if any error codes are displayed, which can help in diagnosing the problem.

Keep in mind that Microsoft Office 2016 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025, so consider upgrading to a newer version or subscription-based service to avoid potential security risks.
