    Hi Zachary Thomas,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating it can be when Forza Horizon 5 crashes, especially after you’ve already tried repairing and reinstalling the game.

The error code 0xFFFFFF9D often suggests a system-level conflict rather than an issue with the game itself. To help resolve this, please try the following steps:

Step 1: Update Your Graphics Drivers

Visit your GPU manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Restart your PC after installation to apply changes.

*Disclaimer: Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.

Step 2: Update Visual C++ Redistributables

FH5 relies on these components to run properly. Download the latest versions from Microsoft:

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable latest supported downloads

    Install and restart your PC.

Step 3: Perform a Clean Boot

This helps rule out conflicts from third-party apps or services:

    • Press Windows + R, type "msconfig", and hit Enter.
    • Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    • In Startup, click Open Task Manager and disable all startup items.
    • Restart your PC and try launching FH5

*Disclaimer: A "clean boot" starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.  These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get back on track.

Please try these steps and let me know if the issue persists. I’ll be happy to assist further.

The error code 0xffffff9d is not specifically listed in the provided context, but here are some general troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve crashes with games like Forza Horizon 5 (FH5):

    1. Update Gaming Services: Ensure that your Gaming Services are up to date. You can do this by launching PowerShell as an administrator and running the following commands:
         get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
         start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

After that, reinstall the Gaming Services app.
    2. Update the Xbox App: Make sure the Xbox App is also updated. You can check for updates in the Microsoft Store or use PowerShell to remove and reinstall it similar to the Gaming Services.
    3. Check for System Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is fully updated, as updates can fix bugs and improve compatibility with games.
    4. Verify Game Files: If you are using a platform like the Microsoft Store, you can check the game files for any corruption or missing files.
    5. Reinstall the Game: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling Forza Horizon 5 to ensure all game files are intact.
    6. Check for Hardware Issues: Sometimes, crashes can be caused by hardware problems. Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date and that your system meets the game's requirements.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consult the official Xbox support or community forums for more specific guidance related to the error code you are encountering.
