How to add a new device to my account

Please note that you can only add Microsoft devices such as Surface laptops, Xbox, keyboard, and mice, as well as other Microsoft accessories using the serial number. For devices from other manufacturers running Windows 11, you need to sign in with your Microsoft account on the device to register it.

If you've already signed in with your Microsoft account and the device not been added to your account, follow these steps: (unlink and re-link your Microsoft account)

1. Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Your info.
2. Select "Sign in with a Local account instead" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the local account setup.
3. Restart your computer and log in using your local account.

Next, return to Settings and select Accounts > Your info, then choose "Sign in with your Microsoft account" again. Complete the sign-in.

1. Sign out (or) Restart your computer.

After restarting, go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices and sign in with your Microsoft account to check if your device is registered.

If it still isn't registered, open the Microsoft Store and sign in with your Microsoft account. Download or install an app or game from the Microsoft Store to see if your device is recognized again on your Microsoft account.

To add a new device to your account, the general process is to sign in on the new device and then register it. Please follow these steps: 

Step 1: Sign in to your Microsoft account on the new device. 

Step 2: Go to account.microsoft.com/devices (login your account), select Register device (at the top right corner), and enter the device’s serial number to link it to your Microsoft account

In addition to accessing through a browser, you can also use the Microsoft Account app or Settings on Windows to add a device more quickly:

• Open Settings → Accounts → Your info on the new Windows device.
• Sign in with your Microsoft account.
• The device will automatically be linked to your account.
