- Feature Request: Chat Folders, Renaming, and Search Improvements for Copilot

Subject: Feature Request: Enhanced Chat Organization, Search, and Date Filtering in Copilot Message: Hello, I’m writing to suggest a set of features that I believe would significantly improve the usability and workflow efficiency of Copilot’s chat interface. These enhancements would make it easier for users to manage, organize, and retrieve conversations—especially for those who rely on Copilot for long-term projects and multi-threaded work.

  1. Folders for Organizing Chats Introduce a folder system that allows users to group related chats together. This would help users manage conversations by topic, project, or workflow. For example, folders could be used to separate chats related to technical troubleshooting, creative writing, investment planning, or customer support.
  2. Nested Folders Allow folders to be nested within other folders. This would support more granular organization, such as grouping all investment-related chats under a parent folder, with subfolders for “Research,” “Portfolio Planning,” and “Market Analysis.”
  3. Chat Renaming Enable users to rename individual chats. This would make it easier to identify conversations at a glance, especially when revisiting older threads. Instead of relying on timestamps or generic labels, users could name chats based on their purpose. Even simple names like:
  • House Planning
  • GPU Upgrades
  • Diet Foods …would make a huge difference in clarity and accessibility. This feature would support a wide range of use cases, from technical workflows to everyday planning.
  1. Drag-and-Drop Chat Management Support drag-and-drop functionality for organizing chats into folders. This would streamline the process of sorting and managing conversations, making the interface more intuitive and user-friendly.
  2. Search Functionality Add a robust search feature that allows users to:
  • Search for specific keywords within chats
  • Search by chat name (if renaming is supported)
  • Filter results based on date, folder, or relevance
  1. Advanced Date Filtering Enhance the search experience by allowing users to filter chats using flexible date inputs:
  • Search by exact date: MM/DD/YYYY
  • Search by month and year: MM/YYYY
  • Search by year only: YYYY
  • Search by date range: From MM/DD/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY
  • Choose filters from a dropdown or calendar interface to simplify the process
  1. Scalability for High-Volume Users As someone who has likely accumulated thousands of chats over time, I can say that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to locate specific conversations. The current interface doesn’t scale well for users with high chat volume. These organizational and search enhancements would dramatically improve accessibility and reduce friction. These features would bring Copilot’s chat interface closer to the standards of modern productivity tools, making it more powerful and flexible for both casual and professional users. I believe they would be valuable additions that enhance the overall experience and usability of the platform. Thank you for considering these suggestions.     I support ALL the features suggested by the original author.
    Some are more High Priority than Others (IMHO), but ALL are very valid and useful.

    Using M365 (Microsoft Desktop App on Windows), as a Office365 professional user, we can have a list of several CoPilot chats.
    And it is difficult to organize our chats, in a professional context, se we need folders at least!

    This feature proposed by the original author is URGENT and very IMPORTANT: FOLDERS to organize Chats!

For example, folders could be used to separate chats related to technical troubleshooting, creative writing, investment planning, or customer support.

    Together with Feature 1, we should also get Feature 2, in the same realm:
    2 - Nested Folders Allow folders to be nested within other folders.

    Note: ChatGPT from OpenAI already has Folders (in the paid version). But they don't have Nested Folders. So, Microsoft can create an advantage here.
    Please, implement FOLDERS and SUB-FOLDERS, we need to organize our activity. It's just a Basic and High Priority issue.

    Good thing! I see that Feature 3 is already a feature on CoPilot (at least in the M365 App):
    3 - Chat Renaming Enable users to rename individual chats. This would make it easier to identify conversations at a glance, especially when revisiting older threads. Instead of relying on timestamps or generic labels, users could name chats based on their purpose.
