Welcome oliver reardon to the Q&A forum.
To upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro using your purchased Pro activation key, avoid entering the generic key (VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T) directly in standard Settings, as it might encounter network issues or edition mismatches. You're on the right track when going offline when entering the generic key to switch editions. Here are a few more things you could try:
Try this instead:
- Right-click Start > Terminal (Admin).
Run slmgr /ipk VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T to upgrade to Pro.
Restart PC.
Tip: Make sure you use the correct generic key for your Windows edition:
Windows 11 Pro: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
Windows 11 Pro N: 2B87N-8KFHP-DKV6R-Y2C8J-PKCKT
Windows 11 Pro for Workstations: DXG7C-N36C4-C4HTG-X4T3X-2YV77
Windows 11 Pro N for Workstations: WYPNQ-8C467-V2W6J-TX4WX-WT2RQ
- After reboot, go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key, and enter your purchased Pro key to activate (internet required for final validation).
or run slmgr /ipk [your Pro key] then slmgr /ato (as administrator) to activate.
Restart your PC when prompted.
If the generic key still doesn't work, please let me know:
- Is there any specific error message do you see when attempting to activate with the generic key?
