Not receiving codes on AUTHENTICATOR app

I work for a small charity (no IT department) and I am having a massive issue with the Microsoft authenticator app.

It worked fine before, but sometime in the last few months I have stopped receiving the codes to be able to log into my account.

When I try to verify my Identify another way, it just gives me two options, Approve the request on my Microsoft Authenticator App, or Use a verification code, but neither options are working on the authenticator App.

I have followed all the trouble shooting tips (date and time, notification settings, restart phone, etc) but not getting anywhere.

If I try to contact support I am asked to sign in, which I can't do. I found a UK number for support but it's an automated machine and just gave me a link for online support, but it asks you to sign in.

Does anyone know how I can sort this issue or how I can contact support?

Not sure if it makes a difference, but we have a charity account which means our user details are our email followed by onmicrosoft.com

Thanks

Thank you for letting me know.

If you are the only Global Admin and don’t have any alternative verification methods set up (like backup phone or email), then the only way forward is to contact Microsoft 365 support directly https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/get-help-support?view=o365-worldwide They’ll ask you to verify your domain ownership and can help reset the MFA requirement so you can get back into your account.

Or, you can create a temporary trial Microsoft 365 Business account and use it to reach Microsoft Support directly through the admin center, that often helps you connect with the right support team faster:

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?

In the meantime, if you haven’t already:

When signing in, make sure to click "Send notification" this should trigger the Authenticator app to show the pop-up.

If there's no pop-up notification, expand the notification area and check for any from Microsoft Authenticator "New sign-in request for your Microsoft account".

If you don’t receive the notification after clicking "Send notification", you can try troubleshooting the Microsoft Authenticator app using the steps in this guide from Microsoft: "Troubleshoot problems with Microsoft Authenticator" https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshoot-problems-with-microsoft-authenticator-a3a74493-566b-4c2e-b949-a2789bac0fd3

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the Microsoft Authenticator app not delivering verification codes. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check Notifications: Ensure that notifications for the Authenticator app are enabled on your device. Sometimes, notifications can be blocked by the device settings.
    2. Try Alternative Verification Methods: If the Authenticator app is not working, you can try selecting the option to use a verification code. If you have previously set up alternative verification methods (like a phone number or email), those might also be available.
    3. Reinstall the App: If the app continues to malfunction, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the Microsoft Authenticator app. This can sometimes resolve issues related to app performance.
    4. Use Microsoft Authenticator for Codes: If you're unable to receive notifications, you can use the app to generate verification codes manually. Open the app, and it should display a code for your account that you can enter when prompted.
    5. Check for Third-party Interference: Sometimes, third-party security apps can block notifications or messages. If you have any such apps installed, try disabling them temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
    6. Contact Support: Since you mentioned having trouble contacting support, consider reaching out through any available channels, such as community forums or social media support, where you might not need to sign in to get help.

If none of these steps work, you may need to wait until you can access support directly to resolve the issue with your account.
