We meet all the requirements to do SharePoint/Overdrive tenant name, where we do not have multi-geo locations + we have 450 sites only + we have not done rename before. based on the official SharePoint documentation this can be done using this command Start-SPOTenantRename @ https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/change-your-sharepoint-domain-name . but some new articles such as @ https://m365admin.handsontek.net/microsoft-sharepoint-onedrive-general-availability-tenant-rename-no-scale-limitations/ are saying that there are currently setting inside the UI to do this? so can anyone advice what is the most recent approach to rename SharePoint/Overdrive domain name?

    Dear @john john Pter,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I completely understand the confusion, especially with newer blog posts mentioning “GA with no scale limitations” and suggesting there might be a UI option.

Based on the most recent Microsoft documentation and announcements, the only supported way to rename your SharePoint and OneDrive domain is still via PowerShell using the Start‑SPOTenantRename cmdlet. For reference: Change your SharePoint domain name

This applies even after the October 2025 general availability updates and the expansion to larger tenant sizes. Microsoft has not released any UI-based rename feature in the SharePoint Admin Center. The rename process, whether Standard (≤10,000 sites) or Advanced (SAM‑licensed for large tenants), continues to be initiated using PowerShell.

Based on the article you provided, tenant rename is now available to all tenants regardless of size. Previously, tenant renamed was limited to organizations with 10,000 sites or fewer. Now, Microsoft has announced general availability with no site count limit for Advanced Tenant Rename.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions or if I misunderstand anything, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.

The Start-SPOTenantRename command is currently the official method to rename your SharePoint and OneDrive tenant name, especially for organizations that meet the specified requirements, such as not having multi-geo locations and having fewer than 10,000 total SharePoint sites and OneDrive accounts combined. According to the documentation, this command initiates the rename process and is necessary for organizations that have not previously performed a rename.

While there may be discussions or articles suggesting that there are UI settings available for tenant renaming, the official documentation does not confirm this as an alternative method. Therefore, it is advisable to rely on the Start-SPOTenantRename command for the most accurate and supported approach to renaming your SharePoint and OneDrive domain name.
