How do I remove Copilot Preview from my Edge home page?

I launched my Edge browser today and at the top right of the screen was "Copilot Discover Preview" instead of the temperature which is what I prefer. How do I get rid of this and get my temperature back and why does my home page get changed without my changing ? Turning the Copilot Preview off does not get rid of it.

Thank you

The comment about the registry hack dated 12/19/25 is generally correct but a bit incomplete for those of us who are not Windows experts. It also contains a misspelling. Before you do this hack, keep in mind that registry entries can be like medicines...they can do what they claim to do but also can have undesired side effects. You might want to make a record of exactly what you did so that you can undo it later. Consider yourself forewarned.

Here is what I did in my Windows...your Windows may very well not look like mine due to the hundreds of settings that we sometimes like to mess with.

    1. Open your Registry Editor with the Run command window (press Win key + R, then type in regedit and hit OK) or by typing registry in the little search bar in your taskbar and then choosing Open.
    2. Here, you'll find Keys listed on the left and their Values listed on the right. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Polices\Microsoft.
    3. In this list, I had six Key entries and couple of subkeys (or whatever they are called), beginning with Cryptography. But none were Edge so I had to create it.
    4. To create a new Key in this list, highlight Microsoft, right click it and choose New and Key. This will create a new Key with the default name of New Key #1. Change that name to Edge.
    5. Now that you have this Key, you need to add a Value to it. Do this by choosing Edge which will highlight it. Right click Edge and choose New and DWORD (32-bit) Value. This will create a new Value over on the right side named New Value #1. Change this to HubSidebarEnabled. Note: do not mess with the (default) value entry.
    6. Note that the original comment misspelled this value...there is only one "S". Also, you don't type in "=0"...the original comment was simply saying that this value needed to be zero. This value is already defaulted to zero and you can see that under the Data heading.
    7. Now X out of the Registry Editor and X out of Edge. When next you open Edge, that slide button should be gone.

    Open Edge,

Click the gear icon in the top‑right of the new tab page, and look under “Content” or “Page Layout.” There you can choose “Custom” and then toggle the widgets you want to see.

    Make sure “Weather” is enabled.

If the Copilot Discover card is still showing, you may need to disable “Copilot Discover” in the same menu or switch the layout back to “Informational” or “Focused,” which usually restores the weather widget.

Thanks for sharing the details, Eileen! Try to turn off Copilot Discover from the New Tab itself

This setting is separate from Edge’s Copilot settings.

    • Open a new tab in Edge
    • Look for the ⚙️ Settings (gear icon) in the top-right of the New Tab page
    • Open Page settings
    • Find Copilot Discover Preview
    • Set it to Off
    • Under Content, choose:
Content off or Informational (this restores weather/temperature)

Close the tab and open a new one, the weather widget should return

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

To remove the Copilot Preview from your Edge home page and revert to your preferred settings, you can try the following steps:

    1. Disable Copilot: Go to the settings in Microsoft Edge. You can do this by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner, selecting Settings, and then navigating to Copilot and sidebar. Here, you can toggle off the option for Copilot.
    2. Customize the Home Page: If turning off Copilot does not restore your previous home page settings, you may need to manually customize your home page. Go to Settings > On startup and select your preferred option (e.g., open a specific page or set of pages).
    3. Check Appearance Settings: In the Appearance section of the settings, ensure that any options related to the Copilot or Discover features are disabled.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be worth checking for any updates to Microsoft Edge or resetting the browser settings to default, which can sometimes fix unexpected changes.
