As of January 4, 2026, the templates are all still set to 2025 and do not have macros to change things appropriately. I expect that sometime this month MS will update them to be fixed for 2026. This is based on what happened last year.

These templates used to include macros that let you change things. Changing the year displayed is not hard, but changing around all the dates is. If you can find one of the old .dotm templates, it should still work. If you used one in the past, it should be in your Custom Office Templates folder.

There are good, free, alternatives available now from trusted producers.

Again, use the feedback mechanisms if you want to get the easily changed calendar templates again.

As of now, a number of templates for 2026 calendars are available including the following:

I used Excel to create a calendar. I followed the same steps recommended for Word using a template and it populated and it easily adjustable. Hope this helps. User's image

    Hi @Carlson, Daniel,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

To ensure we fully understand your request, could you please confirm if you're referring to updating the year and corresponding dates within a calendar template in Microsoft Word?

From our review, the calendar templates available in the latest version of Word are typically refreshed to reflect the current year that provided the desktop application is up to date. However, it's important to note that most of these templates are primarily design-oriented and do not automatically adjust calendar dates when the year is changed.

If you're planning to use a calendar template for a different year, you can manually update the year and adjust the dates and weekdays accordingly. Below are some general steps to help guide you through the process:

Open the calendar template in Microsoft Word.

Click on the year displayed in the document and manually update it to the desired year.

Adjust the dates and weekdays for each month to align with the new year:

    • Each month is typically formatted as a table.
    • You may need to manually shift the dates to match the correct days of the week.
    • Use Word’s table tools to insert or delete rows or columns as needed.

Review and save the updated calendar for your use.

As an alternative, if you prefer a more dynamic solution, Microsoft Word provides a template titled “Family Photo Calendar (Any Year)”. This template enables you to specify the desired year and month during setup, and it will automatically generate the calendar with accurate dates and corresponding weekdays.

To access it, go to File > New, then search for “Family Photo Calendar (Any Year)” in the template gallery > Create User's image

    Click on  "Select New Dates"

Then update the Month and Year fields to reflect your desired timeframe.
