I have the extended support for Windows 10, and when that runs out I'll probably be switching to Linux. As always with this Phone Link problem, it sorted itself out after a few days, but it's still extremely annoying that it does it at all. It works fine for up to a week, and then refuses to connect and takes me in circles with trying to reconnect for two or three days, and then gets over things on its own. This is not how a functional program should work.
Link to Windows issues
I'm having difficulties in Link to Windows. It stays connected for a few days, and then suddenly can't find my laptop, and the connection process never works there and I end up having to remove my phone and re-link it. It's not router settings, it's not phone settings, it's just this busted program. The instructions and troubleshooting aren't even correct; I have an error right now about how my devices couldn't connect, and steps 5 and 6 involve going to Windows settings and making sure my phone is listed under mobile devices, but I don't even have a section for that there, nor has any phone I've had ever shown up in the Bluetooth settings. Usually Link to Windows recovers on its own in a day or two, but this is annoying as hell, I rely on it to tell me when my mom has messaged me, because Messenger (Facebook) doesn't make a sound on desktop anymore.
Again, given that it works fine for a while and then doesn't and then ALSO recovers on its own, it's unlikely the problem is with any of my settings, but I'll check, if anyone has suggestions. This is so stupid and frustrating.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
As a PhoneLink user myself, who depends on it to stay connected while working, I totally understand how frustrating it is for you. Link to Windows working then suddenly failing to connect sometimes happens, and the same behavior has been reported by other users.
Phone Link on Windows and Link to Windows on your (Android) phone need Bluetooth/Wi-Fi for connection, as well as proximity and sync. They rely on multiple components to run perfectly, which don’t always come together. Temporary failures can occur due to:
- A brief fluctuation of the Internet.
- Cached pairing data becoming invalid.
- Background app restrictions on the phone.
- Windows services not running after updates or sleep.
I know you probably have tried all the basic troubleshooting, from updating both apps on PC and phone, to resetting the session and relinking your devices. So below are only my personal suggestions as they sometimes help me:
- Repair/Reset the app:
- On your PC, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features (Windows 10)
- Click three-dot to Phone Link > Advanced options > click Repair
- On your phone (Android)
- Hold Link to Windows app > click Details > Allow its background activity.
- Give all permissions and Disable any battery optimization for this app
- Uninstall updates for Link to Windows services (what works for me lately)
- On your PC, open Phone Link > Settings > Devices > Remove your phone
- On your phone, open Settings > Apps > search for
Link to Windows - If you see two results, one of which has
Services> click that app - Click the three-dot on top right (can be different based on your phone model)
- Select Uninstall updates (or similar wording) > put the app the default version
- Open Phone Link on PC and go through the step to add your phone like new.
I also understand the confusion in the troubleshooting guide. There's a chance that you were looking at instructions for Windows 11, hence not finding your phone in the Bluetooth section. (Note that support for Windows 10 has officially ended on October 14, 2025).

2026-04-20T23:01:44.04+00:00 Today I could not get Phone Link on any of my 3 Windows systems (2@11, 1@10) to work. All worked yesterday. Tried EVERYTHING listed elsewhere. Cleared app cache, reset Bluetooth connection, rebooted both phone and computer, on and on.
Finally removed the updates for the app on Android, then reinstalled them. All 3 were then ok.

2025-12-24T23:40:13.2233333+00:00 It sounds like you're experiencing intermittent connectivity issues with the Link to Windows feature. Here are a few suggestions that might help resolve the problem:
- Ensure Both Devices Are Updated: Make sure that both your phone and your Windows PC have the latest updates installed. Sometimes, connectivity issues can arise from outdated software.
- Check Network Connection: Since Link to Windows relies on both devices being on the same network, ensure that your phone and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Reboot Devices: Restart both your phone and your PC. This can often resolve temporary connectivity issues.
- Bluetooth Settings: Although you mentioned that your devices do not show up in Bluetooth settings, ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. Sometimes, toggling Bluetooth off and back on can help.
- Re-linking: If the issue persists, you might need to unlink and then re-link your devices. This can help reset the connection settings.
- Check App Permissions: Make sure that the Link to Windows app on your phone has the necessary permissions to access your notifications and other features.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider checking the Your Phone FAQs for more detailed troubleshooting steps specific to your situation.
