I can usually create a shareable link by right-clicking, but the option has gone away. What gives?

Restarting Windows Explorer worked for me:

    1. Start Task Manager (right click in a blank area of the Taskbar)
    2. In Task Manager, scroll down to Windows processes
    3. In the list below Windows processes, right-click Windows Explorer and in the popup menu, click Restart

When you next right-click a OneDrive folder in Windows Explorer the Share option should be available.

    Dear @Rene Rocha x2277,

Good day. Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on your description, I understand that you're encountering an issue where the sharing option in OneDrive is no longer visible.

First of all, please assist in testing this option across multiple devices to verify its functionality and ensure it operates as expected.

To assist you further, please follow the steps outlined below and check if it helps:

    1.Check Sharing Settings:

Ensure that your organization's sharing settings allow for sharing.

    • Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    • Select Admin centers > SharePoint.
    • Under Policies, click on Sharing.
    • Make sure that external sharing is set to either "New and existing guests" or "Anyone." Adjust if necessary.

2.Site-Specific Settings: If you're trying to share from a specific site:

    • In the SharePoint admin center, go to Active sites and select the site in question.

    Untitled

    • Click on Sharing and check the settings there.

3.Permissions: Make sure you have the right permissions:

• If your permission level is restricted, you might not see sharing options available. You’ll need to ensure that your user account has the necessary access rights.

    4.Limited-access User Permission Lockdown Mode:

If this feature is activated on your site collection, it can also restrict sharing options. To check this:

    • Go to Site settings > Site collection features and see if "Limited-access user permission lockdown mode" is activated. If it is, try deactivating it.

    5.Viewing on a desktop

If the OneDrive desktop app is installed on your computer, you should see the Share option when you right-click a file or folder in Explorer.

If the Share option has been greyed out or is missing from the right-click context menu, your organization's admins may have restricted the feature.

Admins can change the User Account Control policies to allow OneDrive context menus.

    6.Sync Status

    • Ensure the file is fully synced to OneDrive (check for “Up to date” status).
    • Unsynced files won’t generate share links.

    7.Use OneDrive Web Interface

    • Go to https://onedrive.com, locate the file, and click Share > Copy Link.
    • Adjust permissions if needed (e.g., “Specific people” or “Can view”).
    • This method bypasses glitches in the Windows Explorer context menu and works reliably for large files.

    8.Share via Folder Link

    • Place the large file in a folder and share the folder instead.
    • This avoids bugs with direct file links and allows future additions under the same link.
    • Be sure to set permissions to “Can view” if you want read-only access.

    9.Use Windows Explorer’s “Share” Dialog

    • Right-click the file and select Share (blue cloud icon).
    • You can enter email addresses or copy a link with customized permissions.
    • This replaces the old “Copy link” shortcut with a more controlled process.

Note: Please contact your IT admin to do these steps.

If none of the above solutions work, let me know for further investigation. Please note that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated. Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day!
