Dear @Rod McClymont (Hunter New England LHD),

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft 365 Q&A Forum Community Support team. I understand how disruptive it is when Outlook freezes immediately upon opening, especially after a system update.

I have investigated this behavior and can confirm that it is related to a recognized service incident currently affecting the Outlook app for iOS/iPadOS, tracked under Incident ID: EX1220516.

Our engineering teams began recovery efforts on January 21, 2026. We are seeing a steady improvement in service stability across the network. Because this is a server-side and app-compatibility conflict, no troubleshooting action is required on your device at this time.

While the final fix is being fully deployed, you can temporarily access your account through your mobile browser at outlook web to ensure you don't miss any urgent communications.

Once the restoration is complete, the app will automatically return to its normal performance levels without the need for a reinstallation or a reboot. I kindly ask for your continued patience as we finalize the fix to restore the high-quality experience you expect.

I will continue to monitor the status of this incident and will provide an update as soon as the service is officially declared healthy.

Dear all customer with same issue,

I’m really sorry for the disruption this issue is causing, being unable to open Outlook on iPad after the latest iOS update is incredibly frustrating, and I understand how it impacts your day.

This problem is already tracked by Microsoft under Service Health Incident: EX1220516. If you have access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, you can see live updates here Admin Center > Health > Service health >Exchange Online > EX1220516.

As a Microsoft Q&A moderator, I don’t have the permissions to intervene in the repair process or expedite engineering actions. However, I want to reassure you that our back‑end engineering team is actively working to resolve this as quickly as possible for everyone affected.

    What you can do meanwhile

    • If available, use Outlook on the web or the desktop client as a temporary workaround.
    • If you don’t have Admin Center access, please ask your IT admin to monitor EX1220516 and communicate any advisories or mitigation steps posted there.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding while the fix is being rolled out.
