Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi @GB,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand how inconvenient it can be when the Classic Outlook calendar view keeps switching to 15‑minute intervals on its own, especially when that’s not the setting you prefer.
To help resolve this, you can try the following steps, which often address this type of behavior:
1/ Manually set the calendar time grid back to 30 minutes:
In Classic Outlook for Windows, the time grid is controlled by the Time Scale setting, which applies only to the Day, Work Week, and Week views. To adjust it:
- Open Calendar
- Go to the View tab
- Ensure you are in Day, Work Week, or Week view
- Select Time Scale, then choose 30 minutes
This step confirms that the preferred time interval is explicitly set.
2/ Apply the current view to all your calendars:
In View > Change view > Apply Current View to Other Calendar Folders.
After that, choose the calendars you want to apply the view on.
3/ Reset the Calendar view:
If the setting is being overwritten or the view itself has become corrupted, resetting the Calendar view can often help:
- In the Outlook ribbon, go to View > under Current View choose Reset View.
or
- View > View Settings > Reset Current View.
This restores the view to its default state and can resolve inconsistent behavior.
4/ Check for add-ins that may be affecting the view:
In many cases, add-ins can cause Outlook settings to change unexpectedly. To rule this out, you can start Outlook in Safe Mode, which loads Outlook without any add-ins:
- Press Windows + R
- Type Outlook.exe /safe and press Enter
If the time scale remains stable in Safe Mode, try disabling add-ins one at a time by going to File > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins to identify which one may be causing the issue.
5/ Reset all Outlook views (if the issue persists):
If the behavior continues, a more global reset of Outlook views may help:
- Close Outlook
- Press Windows + R
- Type outlook /cleanviews and press Enter
This can resolve stubborn view-related issues that affect multiple folders or calendars.
Because you’re working with multiple calendars, it’s also a good idea to double-check that you’re adjusting the active calendar view (Day / Work Week / Week) where the issue is occurring, as view settings may behave differently depending on what’s selected or overlaid.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding.
I look forward to continuing the conversation.
