Hello!

I am having a problem where I can not see my comments in comment bubbles or in list view. I have modern comments enabled. I have toggled that on and off and still have the same issue. I have upgraded to Taho (using a mac), but was having this problem before AND after. Please advise!

After you have activated modern comments, you will have to restart Word. Maybe you already considered this.

Which specific Office product do you have? A subscription such as Microsoft 365 Personal? Or a perpetual license such as Office Home & Business 2024?

    Hi lawstudent1

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing your experience.

On Word for Mac, the modern comments experience can sometimes fail to render correctly even when it’s enabled. Since this behavior occurs both before and after upgrading to Tahoe, please try the following supported checks:

    • Check Review / Markup display settings: On the Review tab, locate the tracking or markup display options and ensure the document is set to All Markup. If the view is set to No Markup or Original, comment bubbles and the Comments list will be hidden, even though the comments still exist.
    • Verify the document view: Go to View > Print Layout. Comments do not display correctly in Draft or Outline view.
    • Verify in Word for the Web: Open the same document in Word for the Web at Office.com using your education account. If comments appear there, this confirms the document is intact and the issue is isolated to the Word application on your Mac.
    • Reset Word preferences: Quit Word, then remove com.microsoft.Word.plist from ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft Word/Data/Library/Preferences, and relaunch Word.
    • Test in a new document: Create a brand‑new document and add a comment. If it works there, the issue may be specific to the original file.

Please let me know how you get on, as your feedback is valuable to the community.
