If your laptop stops at 60%, it is almost always a manufacturer “battery health / conservation” feature, not a Windows setting. You change it in the PC maker’s app, BIOS/UEFI, or a manufacturer utility. What's the brand of your computer?
How to change battery charge limit, currently default 60%
My battery only charges to 60%. We often lose mains power so when available I need battery to fully charge, so it has more life when there is no mains power. How do I change relevant setting?

Learn moreTo change the battery charge limit on your device, you can use the Battery Limit option available in the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) settings. This setting allows you to adjust how the battery is charged, which can help prolong its longevity and ensure it charges to a higher percentage when mains power is available.
Here’s how you can modify the Battery Limit setting:
- Boot into Surface UEFI: Press Power + Vol Up when turning on your device.
- Navigate to Boot configuration: Select Advanced Options.
- Enable Battery Limit: Toggle Enable Battery Limit to Off to allow the battery to charge beyond the current limit (60% in your case).
If your device is configured for specific scenarios (like point of sale or kiosk), you might want to ensure that the Battery Limit is set appropriately for your needs.
Please note that the Battery Limit setting is built into Surface devices by default and may require a firmware update for other devices to access this feature.
