I understand that InfoPath Forms will be out of support starting July 14, 2026.

We currently have an InfoPath-based application hosted on SharePoint Server 2019, and our environment is in the process of being upgraded to SharePoint Server Subscription Edition. The application itself is not very complex, but due to current timelines and priorities, we do not have the bandwidth to rewrite or migrate it to an alternative solution immediately.

My questions are:

  1. What exactly happens after the July 14, 2026 support end date?

Will existing InfoPath forms continue to function on SharePoint Server Subscription Edition?

  • Is the impact limited to a lack of support/security fixes, or is there a risk that the forms will break or become unusable?

Are there any known compatibility or reliability risks with continuing to run existing InfoPath forms on SharePoint Subscription Edition beyond the support date?

What short-term or interim options are recommended for organizations in this situation (e.g., configuration settings, isolation strategies, or supported “bridge” approaches) while planning and executing a permanent migration to a modern forms solution (Power Apps, custom forms, third-party tools, etc.)?

Any guidance on expected behavior post-support and practical mitigation strategies would be greatly appreciated as we plan our modernization roadmap.

    Hi @supreethes,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A, and thank you very much for reaching out.

Based on your description, from my research, I would like to share my perspective:

As Q&A assist suggest, after July 14, 2026, InfoPath will not stop working immediately. Existing forms will still load and function on SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, but Microsoft will no longer provide fixes, security patches, or compatibility updates.

Because the platform becomes unsupported, future updates (for example Windows, browsers, SharePoint CUs updates, ...) may eventually affect rendering or form logic, causing forms to fail over time. Currently, there are no documented specific breaking changes, but the long‑term risk increases as the environment evolves.

For short‑term mitigation, you can keep the forms stable by minimizing changes to the site collections hosting InfoPath forms, avoiding new dependencies, and testing SharePoint SE updates in a staging environment. You can also export XML submissions or convert important forms to PDF as a fallback. It’s also a good time to inventory your forms and identify which ones are business‑critical.

Outside this thread, I also recommend posting on the Microsoft Tech Community forum. As a forum moderator, I can only assist based on available documentation and research, while the Tech Community can offer deeper technical discussions with experts and enthusiastic power user who have hands‑on experience and can suggest additional short‑term solutions as you plan your migration.

    I hope this helps.

After the end of support date for InfoPath Forms on July 14, 2026, the following points are important to consider:

    1. Functionality Post-Support: Existing InfoPath forms will continue to function on SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, but they will no longer receive support or security fixes from Microsoft. This means that while the forms may still work, any issues that arise will not be addressed by Microsoft.
    2. Impact of Lack of Support: The lack of support does not necessarily mean that the forms will break or become unusable immediately. However, there is a risk that future updates to SharePoint or changes in the underlying infrastructure could lead to compatibility issues or unexpected behavior. Therefore, while the forms may remain operational, their reliability cannot be guaranteed over time.
    3. Compatibility and Reliability Risks: Continuing to run existing InfoPath forms beyond the support date carries inherent risks. These include potential compatibility issues with future updates and a lack of security updates, which could expose the application to vulnerabilities.
    4. Short-Term Options: For organizations in this situation, it is recommended to start planning for migration to modern solutions like Power Apps or custom forms. In the interim, consider the following strategies:
      • Isolation Strategies: Keep InfoPath forms isolated from critical applications to minimize risk.
      • Configuration Settings: Review and adjust settings to optimize performance and reduce potential issues.
      • Bridge Approaches: Explore options for integrating InfoPath forms with newer technologies, if feasible, to maintain functionality while transitioning to a more modern solution.

In summary, while InfoPath forms will continue to function after the support end date, organizations should proactively plan for migration to avoid potential risks associated with unsupported software.
