Additional meeting and call-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Dear @Matt,
Thank you for updating. From what you shared, you are using macOS 26.1 and the new Teams app on an M3 Max MacBook Pro. Since Teams on the web always works, but the desktop app fails only on your office network, this usually means the issue is with how the desktop app connects to the network—not the device or account.
Why the web version works but the Mac app has problems
Teams Web (in a browser)
- Runs inside browser
- Uses the browser’s network rules
- Browsers handle strict firewalls or security filters more smoothly
- That’s why the web version works even on a restricted office network
Teams Mac Desktop App
- Uses macOS network system and tries to create a direct media connection for better call quality
- It needs certain ports (UDP 3478–3481) to be open
- If your office firewall, proxy, or inspection tools block these ports, the app cannot join calls
- On hotspot or home network (no filtering), the app works fine
So the web version works because it uses the browser’s safe path, while the desktop app uses a direct connection that your office network may be blocking.
Quick checks
- Does the issue happen only on the office network?
- Can you run a Teams Test Call in the desktop app?
- Can IT confirm if UDP 3478–3481 are allowed and not filtered by SSL inspection?
Please continue joining meetings via the web version (teams.microsoft.com), it is reliable until IT adjusts the network.
Your IT / network team may need to allow Teams media traffic to bypass proxy/inspection.
