Does Microsoft plan to fix the Team on Mac issue?

Why is it that I have to constantly delete cache or completely remove Teams on Mac only to have it work for a short time and then fail to connect to calls again?

Other video companies have figured it out. Why is Microsoft having so many problems?

    Dear @Matt,

Thank you for updating. From what you shared, you are using macOS 26.1 and the new Teams app on an M3 Max MacBook Pro. Since Teams on the web always works, but the desktop app fails only on your office network, this usually means the issue is with how the desktop app connects to the network—not the device or account.

Why the web version works but the Mac app has problems

    Teams Web (in a browser)

    • Runs inside browser
    • Uses the browser’s network rules
    • Browsers handle strict firewalls or security filters more smoothly
    • That’s why the web version works even on a restricted office network

    Teams Mac Desktop App

    • Uses macOS network system and tries to create a direct media connection for better call quality
    • It needs certain ports (UDP 3478–3481) to be open
    • If your office firewall, proxy, or inspection tools block these ports, the app cannot join calls
    • On hotspot or home network (no filtering), the app works fine

So the web version works because it uses the browser’s safe path, while the desktop app uses a direct connection that your office network may be blocking.

    Quick checks

    1. Does the issue happen only on the office network?
    2. Can you run a Teams Test Call in the desktop app?
    3. Can IT confirm if UDP 3478–3481 are allowed and not filtered by SSL inspection?

Please continue joining meetings via the web version (teams.microsoft.com), it is reliable until IT adjusts the network.

Your IT / network team may need to allow Teams media traffic to bypass proxy/inspection.

    Dear @Matt,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand Teams on your Mac can’t consistently connect to calls. Reinstalling or clearing the cache helps only for a short time, then the issue comes back. I know that’s frustrating, especially when you need calls to “just work.”

To better assistance, could you please confirm following information:

    • Which macOS version are you on?
    • Is your Mac Apple silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel?
    • Which Teams version/build do you see in Teams > … > About > Version?
    • Do calls fail only on corporate network/VPN or also on home Wi‑Fi/hotspot?
    • Do you use a proxy/SSL inspection product (e.g., Zscaler/Cisco)? Teams media needs direct UDP 3478–3481 and should bypass SSL inspection for best reliability.
    • Does Teams on the web (https://teams.microsoft.com) join calls from the same Mac?

In the meantime, I recommend step below:

1/ Use the web version while we stabilize

Join meetings via teams.microsoft.com in Edge or Chrome as a temporary workaround.

    2/ Update Teams and macOS

Install the latest new Teams for Mac build (Microsoft publishes frequent Mac fixes), and apply any pending macOS updates.

3/ Try one test call off VPN / outside the proxy

Connect via a mobile hotspot (or home network) and place a test call. If it works there but not on corporate VPN/proxy, it points to a network path issue (proxy/SSL inspection or blocked UDP 3478–3481). Your network team should allow/bypass Teams media per Microsoft guidance.

If the issue persists, I suggest that:

For personal account: you can Submit feedback to ‎Microsoft‎ by navigate to Teams > ... > Feedback > Report a problem

For business account: please ask your IT admin raise support ticket to Microsoft 365 admin center> Support > New Service Request. or Admin can raise support ticket from https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any further questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Microsoft has acknowledged issues with the Teams client on Mac, including problems that may require users to clear the cache or reinstall the application. While there is no specific mention of a planned fix in the provided context, it does indicate that Microsoft is aware of the challenges users face with the Teams application. Users experiencing persistent issues are encouraged to check for updates and ensure that their system meets the necessary requirements for running Teams effectively.
