    Hello John Bean,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how confusing it is to see your message rejected when Outlook.com appears to send mail successfully.

The message “The following organization rejected your message: mx.google.com” indicates that the email was refused by Google’s mail servers, not by Outlook.com. In other words, the delivery attempt reached Google, where it was rejected during their inbound mail checks.

Before going further, I’d like to add some important context and checks that usually help identify the reason:

1, Review the full bounce / rejection message

If you received a non‑delivery report (NDR), please open it and check for additional details such as:

    • Error codes (for example, 550, 421, or policy‑related messages)
    • Text mentioning spam, policy, authentication, or invalid recipient

Those details explain why Google rejected the message.

    2, Confirm the recipient address

Make sure the Gmail address is typed correctly and that the recipient’s mailbox still exists and can receive mail from other senders.

3, Check whether messages to Gmail worked before

If this started recently, it may be related to Google’s spam or security filters temporarily blocking messages from your address.

4, If you’re sending from a custom domain

Rejections from Gmail often occur when SPF, DKIM, or DMARC records are missing or misconfigured on the sender’s domain. This would need to be reviewed on the domain’s DNS side.

Since the rejection is coming from Google’s servers, Microsoft community forum agents don’t have visibility into Gmail’s filtering decisions or the ability to release the message on their side.

If you can share the exact error text from the bounce message (without personal addresses), it will help clarify whether this is a recipient issue, a policy block, or an authentication‑related rejection.

I hope this helps clarify what the message means and how to narrow down the cause.
