If your laptop mouse is not working, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some common troubleshooting steps you can consider:

    1. Check the Mouse Connection: If you are using an external mouse, ensure that it is properly connected to the laptop. For a Bluetooth mouse, check if it is paired and turned on.
    2. Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, simply restarting your laptop can resolve temporary glitches that may affect mouse functionality.
    3. Update Drivers: Ensure that your mouse drivers are up to date. You can check for updates in the Device Manager under "Mice and other pointing devices."
    4. Check for Hardware Issues: If the mouse is still not working, there might be a hardware issue. Try using a different mouse to see if the problem persists.
    5. Windows Settings: Go to the Windows settings and check the mouse settings. Make sure the mouse is enabled and configured correctly.
    6. Check for Conflicts: Sometimes, other software or drivers may conflict with mouse functionality. Try disabling any recently installed software to see if that resolves the issue.

If the problem continues, it may be beneficial to consult with a technician or refer to support resources specific to your laptop model.

    Hi John Glorioso,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand your laptop mouse keeps getting lost or becomes inactive on Windows.

Please make sure you have already tried the automated suggestions provided by Q&A Assist. In addition, please try to follow these steps:

1, Check touchpad status using keyboard

    • Press the function key combination on your laptop that enables or disables the touchpad (usually Fn + F5, Fn + F6, or a key with a touchpad icon).

2, Turn off touchpad auto-disable setting

    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad
    • Turn off any option that disables the touchpad when a mouse is connected.

    3, Reinstall the touchpad driver

    • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager
    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices
    • Right-click the touchpad device and select Uninstall device
    • Restart the computer and let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.

4, Disable power management for the touchpad

    • Open Device Manager
    • Right-click the touchpad device and select Properties
    • Go to the Power Management tab
    • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

    5, Test in Clean Boot

    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter
    • Select Selective startup and disable non-Microsoft startup items
    • Restart the device and check if the issue persists.
