Microsoft Teams desktop app not working

My teams desktop app has suddenly stopped working - nothing about my computer has changed, it is currently on Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68). I tried to launch the desktop client as always and keep getting "The application “Microsoft Teams” can’t be opened.".

Things I have tried:

  1. Clearing the cache both by navigating to the folders in Finder and deleting them, and running commands on terminal
  2. Reinstalling teams

But nothing is working so far.

According to the official documentation, Teams application is no longer supported on Mac OS Ventura:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-client-system-requirements

Teams app is supported on the three most recent versions of macOS. Currently, the three most recent versions of Mac OS are

    macOS Tahoe 26.2

    macOS Sequoia 15.7.3

    macOS Sonoma 14.8.3

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/109033

If you cannot update your Mac OS, then you can try to open Teams for Web app in your browser.

    Hi Justine Chan

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand Microsoft Teams desktop app cannot be opened on macOS Ventura and shows “The application ‘Microsoft Teams’ can’t be opened.”

Please kindly try to follow these steps:

    1. Fully remove Microsoft Teams from the system

    • Quit Microsoft Teams
    • Open Finder > Applications and move Microsoft Teams to Trash
    • Open Finder > Go > Go to Folder and delete these folders if present:
      • ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft
      • ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2
      • ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams

    2. Restart the Mac

    3. Download and install the latest Microsoft Teams for macOS from the official site.

    Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app

    4. Allow the app in macOS security settings if blocked

    • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security
    • Scroll down and allow Microsoft Teams if an “app blocked” message appears

    5. Remove the quarantine attribute if macOS blocks the app

    • Open Terminal
    • Run: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Microsoft\ Teams.app

    6. Launch Microsoft Teams again

I hope this helps and please feel free to let me know how it goes. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
