Dear @jaelliah therese rata,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. The error message you're seeing indicates that Word is encountering a problem it cannot recover from. When the built-in "Repair Now" option fails or closes the program, a more comprehensive repair is needed. Here is a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue.
Option 1: Run the office application as an administrator
Sometimes, problems occur due to administrative permissions. You can check this by running the affected Office application as an administrator. The steps to do this are as follows:
- Click on Windows Search.
- Type the name of the affected Office application.
- Right-click on the Office application in the search results and select Run as administrator.
- Click Yes in the UAC prompt.

If the error disappears and you are able to use the Office application, you can check for Office updates. If any updates are available, Microsoft Office will install them. After this, the problem should disappear. If not, try the next solutions.
Option 2: Disable the compatibility Mode
If an app doesn't have updates, you can use the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter for assistance. Click the link below to open the troubleshooter directly, or follow the steps provided to access it manually.
- Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Locate Program Compatibility Troubleshooter and select Run.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Option 3: Edit windows registry keys
Note: Making any mistakes with the registry can cause serious problems with your computer. So, before proceeding with the steps below, please refer How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support
- Press
Windows + R key combinations to open Run.
- Type regedit in the text box and press Enter.
- Cut and paste the following location in the address bar and press Enter:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common
- Find and right-click the Experiment folder and select Delete.
- Delete ExperimentEcs and ExperimentTas using the same way.
- Scroll down to find and expand the Licensing folder. Then delete the CurrentSkuIdForApp folder.
- Restart your computer to make sure the issue has been fixed.

Option 4: Update or reinstall office
- Update: Open any Office app (like Word), go to File > Account (or Office Account), and click Update Options > Update Now.
- Clean Reinstall: If repairs fail, a fresh install is the next step.
- Use the official Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to completely uninstall Office. You can refer link download via Download Enterprise Version of Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant from Official Microsoft Dow…
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall Office by visiting office.com, signing in, and downloading the installer from your account dashboard.
As a member of the Microsoft 365 Community Support team, I am here to provide you with the most direct technical paths to recovery. While I can guide you through these repair steps and help identify if an "Add-in" is causing the crash, please keep in mind that I cannot remotely access your system to perform the repair for you. My goal is to give you the tools to get Word back to a stable state.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or if the problem persists after trying these solutions. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
