I'm working on a Mac, and my computer won't let me download Ms so I use PowerPoint on either Safari or Google but lately neither of them have been working. When ever I open a PowerPoint and try to edit something, the whole screen freezes. I have updated my computer and tried refreshing, nothing has worked.

    Dear @Gabrielle Bergeron,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum!

Thank you for reaching out, and I’m really sorry to hear that PowerPoint keeps freezing on your Mac, I know how disruptive that can be when you're trying to get work done. I’d love to help you get this resolved.

Before we go further, could you please confirm whether the freezing happens with any PowerPoint files including a new blank file? This detail will help narrow down whether the issue is file‑specific or system‑wide.

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

    1.For PowerPoint on the Web:

    • Please clear your browser’s cache completely. Here are the steps:
      • In Safari, navigate to Settings, select Privacy, click on Manage Website Data, and choose Remove All to clear the cache.
      • For Google Chrome, click the three dots in the top right corner, go to More tools, select Clear browsing data, choose Cached images and files, set the desired time range, and click Clear data.

    • Try opening PowerPoint in Incognito/Private mode (Shift + Command + N on most browsers).
    • If possible, try using a different browser, such as Microsoft Edge, and test again in its InPrivate mode.

2.For the PowerPoint App (Desktop version):

    • Try launching PowerPoint in Safe Mode. Please follow this article for detailed instructions: How to use a "clean startup" to determine whether background programs are interfering with Office for Mac
    • If the Safe Mode does not work, I recommend that you should uninstall and reinstall your PowerPoint app. But you have to reinstall it by downloading Office version from the Microsoft's website, please do not download Office from your MacBook's App Store (see steps and link below):
      • Go to Applications > select Microsoft PowerPoint > choose Move to Trash. Reference: Uninstall Office for Mac
      • Download Office directly from Microsoft website instead.
You can see this link for more details for it: Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac
    • If the app still freezes after reinstalling, please create a new macOS user profile on your device and test PowerPoint there, this often helps identify whether the issue is tied to the user environment. Please follow this article to do it: Add a user or group on Mac Please note that our support is limited to providing guidance based on official Microsoft documentation.
