This is the THIRD time Outlook has suddenly "lost/removed" a few weeks of emails. Emails before and after are still there. WHY? How can I restore missing ones?

    Hello Sandy Webb,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I can understand how concerning it is to see several weeks of emails disappear unexpectedly, especially when this has happened more than once.

The Q&A Assist answer provides the standard recovery steps for messages that were manually deleted, which is a good initial reference. However, based on your description, this situation does not appear to be a typical Deleted Items scenario.

Since you are using New Outlook for Windows (For Home), missing emails from a specific time range are often related to sync or view changes rather than permanent removal. To help narrow this down, please try the following steps in order.

1, Verify the mailbox on Outlook on the web

Sign in at https://outlook.com using the same account and check whether the missing emails appear there. If the emails are visible on the web but not in New Outlook, this indicates a local app or sync issue rather than data loss.

2, Check filters and view settings in New Outlook

In New Outlook, confirm that no filters are applied, such as Unread or date-based filtering, and switch between Focused and Other. Also try changing the sort order by date to confirm older messages are not being hidden.

3, Review mailbox rules and cleanup settings

Open Settings > Mail > Rules and confirm there are no rules that move or delete messages automatically. Also check Settings > Mail > Storage for your account.

4, Refresh the New Outlook app state

Sign out of New Outlook, fully close the app, reopen it, and sign back in. This forces a full resync of the mailbox, which commonly restores messages that temporarily disappear due to client state issues.

If the emails are missing on Outlook on the web as well, contributors and moderators on the Microsoft Q&A forum do not have access to mailbox data or recovery systems, so the next step would be to Contact - Microsoft Support  for account level investigation.

I hope this helps clarify why the Deleted Items steps may not address this case and helps you determine whether the emails are still present or affected by sync behavior.

To restore deleted emails in Outlook, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Deleted Items Folder: Open Outlook and navigate to the Deleted Items folder. If the emails you are looking for are there, you can simply select them and choose Restore.
    2. Recover Deleted Items: If the emails are not in the Deleted Items folder, you can try to recover them from the Recoverable Items folder:
      • In Outlook, go to the Folder tab.
      • Click on Recover Deleted Items. This option allows you to see items that have been deleted and are still recoverable.
      • Select the emails you want to restore and click Restore Selected Items.
    3. Using Outlook Web App (OWA): If you are using OWA, you can also restore deleted items by:
      • Signing into OWA and selecting the Deleted Items folder.
      • If you don’t see the emails, look for an option to recover items that are no longer in the Deleted Items folder.
    4. Backup PST Files: If you have previously backed up your Outlook data to a PST file, you can open that file to access your old emails. To do this, go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File and select your PST file.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, it may be helpful to check if there are any settings or rules in Outlook that might be affecting your email visibility.
