Whenever I turn on my computer there is a black language selector box in the middle of the screen. My mouse does not click into it. How do I make it go away? It is useless.

Hi, I have a same issue, and I tried everything except last one where I cannot find "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service". I tried to get screen shot but it does not include black box. So, I took a picture. Any other suggestions? This is bland new Dell computer and monitor with Window 11

    Thanks.

    Hi Ric,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I can understand how disruptive it is to see a black language selector box appear in the middle of the screen, especially when it doesn’t respond to mouse clicks. This behavior is typically linked to how Windows loads language or text‑input components during sign‑in.

Please kindly send a screenshot of your screen containing the black language selector box, that would be really helpful for us to work on this together.

In the meantime, here are some possible steps that you can try in this situation:

1 - Hide the language bar

    • Go to Settings > Time & language > Typing > Advanced keyboard settings
    • Uncheck Use the desktop language bar when available
    • Select Language bar options and set it to Hidden
    • Sign out and sign back in

2 - Remove unused keyboard layouts

    • Go to Settings > Time & language > Language & region
    • Select your primary language > Language options
    • Under Keyboards, keep only the layouts you actively use

3 - Disable the Touch Keyboard service (if you don’t use a touch screen)

    • Press Win + R, type services.msc
    • Open Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service
    • Stop the service and set Startup type to Disabled
    • Restart the device

When the box appears, pressing Win + Ctrl + Space or Esc may dismiss it.

I hope these steps help restore a clean and uninterrupted desktop experience. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

    Hi Ric,

Could you please post a photo of it? A picture says a thousand words.

To remove the language selector box that appears in the middle of your screen when you turn on your computer, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check Language Settings: Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language. Ensure that only the languages you want are installed and set your preferred language as the default.
    2. Disable Language Bar: If the language bar is enabled, you can disable it. Go to Control Panel > Region and Language > Keyboards and Languages tab > Change keyboards. In the Text Services and Input Languages window, you can uncheck the option to show the language bar.
    3. Remove Unwanted Languages: If you see any languages that you do not use, you can remove them from the list in the same settings menu mentioned above.
    4. Restart Your Computer: After making these changes, restart your computer to see if the language selector box is gone.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be helpful to check for any updates or additional settings related to your display or graphics that could be affecting how the language selector appears.
