Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.
If you can receive mail but can’t send from Outlook 2007, the settings may still be “correct” yet sending fails because of modern TLS security requirements:
- Comcast/Xfinity has required TLS 1.2 and discontinued older TLS (1.0/1.1). Outlook 2007 (especially on older Windows versions) may not support TLS 1.2 by default, so the SMTP session is rejected before the message can be submitted.
- Outlook 2007 is also out of support (ended October 10, 2017), so compatibility with newer security standards is limited.
What to try (quick checklist)
- In Outlook 2007: Tools > Account Settings > Change > More Settings
- Outgoing Server tab: Check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" > Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
- Advanced tab: SMTP server
smtp.comcast.net, port 587 (with "This server requires an encrypted connection (TLS)" checked) or port 465 (SSL)
- Check your Xfinity account security:
- Ensure Third-Party Email Access is allowed for your mailbox.
If the issue persists
At that point it’s very likely a TLS compatibility limitation with Outlook 2007/older Windows. The practical workaround is to use Xfinity Webmail or move the account to a newer supported email app/Outlook version.
