    Hello @Castro Dias, JMG, Mr

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Based on the information you described, I understand that you lost text in a document while working in Word Online and were unable to recover it using the “Previous Versions” option.

First, have you checked the Version History directly in OneDrive or SharePoint (where the file is stored)? If you only checked from within Word Online, I recommend also reviewing version history from the file location:

Restore a previous version of a file stored in OneDrive

Sometimes the full version history is more clearly visible from the storage location rather than inside Word Online.

    You may also check:

    • The Recycle Bin in OneDrive/SharePoint (in case the file was overwritten or replaced)
    • If the document was downloaded locally at any point (check your Downloads folder)

In addition, you can refer to the answer below. Unfortunately, if the previous version does not appear in OneDrive/SharePoint version history, it usually means that the earlier content was overwritten and no recoverable version remains. In that case, there may not be a way to restore the lost text.

I’m truly sorry if that is the case. I understand how frustrating this situation can be. Thank you for your understanding.

Try the following recovery paths, in order, to see if the missing text can be restored.

    1. Check Version History (file stored in OneDrive/SharePoint)
    • Open the document in Word (desktop or web).
    • Select File > Info.
    • Select Version History.
    • In the Version History pane, open earlier versions and look for the missing text.
    • When a version with the correct content is found, select Restore to roll back to that version.

    Alternatively in Microsoft 365 apps:

    • Open the file.
    • Click the document title at the top and choose Version history.
    • Open previous versions in a separate window and Restore the one that has the lost text.
    1. Use AutoRecover / Unsaved files (if the document was open in the desktop app) If the document was also edited in the desktop version of Word and AutoRecover was enabled:
    • Open Word on the Mac.
    • Go to File > Info > Manage Document > Recover Unsaved Documents (Windows wording; on Mac, Word will normally show recovered files automatically after a crash).
    • Open any listed unsaved/recovered versions and check for the missing text, then Save As if the content is correct.
    1. Check Document Recovery after a crash If Word or the browser crashed while editing:
    • Reopen Word (desktop) – the Document Recovery pane may appear.
    • Select the most recent recovered version, choose Open, and if the text is present, save the file immediately.
    1. If no version contains the missing text If Version History and AutoRecover/unsaved files do not show a version that still has the text, there is no supported way in Word/OneDrive/SharePoint to reconstruct deleted content beyond those mechanisms.
