    Dear @Brenda,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I understand you would like to add a file in Microsoft Teams so that others can open and view it, and I’m happy to clarify how this works.

In Microsoft Teams, the recommended approach depends on who you would like to share the file with:

If you want everyone in the team or channel to open the file, please upload the file directly to the Shared tab of the relevant channel. Files shared this way are stored in the team’s SharePoint site, and all channel members will be able to open and view the file based on the channel’s permissions.

If you only want specific people to access the file, you can share the file through a Teams chat. In this case, only the participants in that chat will be able to open the file.

    Untitled

Files shared in chats are stored in the sender’s OneDrive. Permissions are automatically granted to the people in that chat so they can open and view the file.

Additionally, you can attach a file in a channel post:

    1. Go to the channel where the file should be shared.
    2. Under New conversation, select Actions and apps (paperclip/attachment area).
    3. Choose one of:
      • Recent (one of the last used files)
      • Upload from this device
      • Attach a cloud file
      • Browse Teams and Channels (existing team files)
    4. Select the file, optionally add a message and @mention people.

    For reference:

Share a file to multiple channels in Microsoft Teams

Collaborate on files in Microsoft Teams

    Upload and share files

I hope this helps! Please feel free to reply below if you have any update or further concern.

Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated. Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day!
