Clicking a pinned Chrome icon on the Windows taskbar always opens Chrome to its configured startup page, not specifically a search page. To get a Google Search page when selecting Chrome from the taskbar, change Chrome’s startup settings so it opens Google Search as the first page.
After that, if Chrome is pinned to the taskbar (right‑click the app in Start or on the taskbar and choose Pin to taskbar), selecting that taskbar icon will open Chrome with the Google Search page according to the startup configuration.
If needed, unpin and re‑pin Chrome so the taskbar shortcut uses the updated startup behavior:
- Right‑click the Chrome icon on the taskbar and select Unpin from taskbar.
- Open Chrome from Start.
- Right‑click the running Chrome icon on the taskbar and select Pin to taskbar.
