To scan documents from an HP Envy printer to a Windows computer, first ensure the scanner part of the printer is installed and recognized in Windows, then use the Windows Scan app to perform the scan.

    1. Connect and install the scanner
      1. Make sure the HP Envy is connected to the computer (USB or network per HP instructions) and powered on.
      2. On the Windows device, select Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners (or use this shortcut if available: Open Printers & scanners).
      3. Under Add printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner.
      4. Wait while Windows searches, then select the HP Envy from the list and choose Add device.
      5. After installation, the device appears under Printers & scanners. If it is a multifunction printer, select it, choose Manage, and check the drop-down list for an entry prefixed with Scanner: to confirm Windows sees the scanner.
    2. Scan using the Windows Scan app
      1. Make sure the printer/scanner is turned on.
      2. Right-click the Start menu and select Search.
      3. In Type here to search, enter: Windows Scan.
      4. Under Apps, select Scan. If it does not appear, install the Windows Scan app from Microsoft Store using this link: Windows Scan.
      5. Place the document on the scanner:
        • Flatbed: place the document face down on the glass and close the lid.
        • Document feeder: place the pages in the feeder as directed in the printer’s documentation.
      6. In the Scan app:
        • In Scanner, select the HP Envy scanner.
        • In Source, choose Flatbed, Feeder, or Auto-configured to match where the document was placed.
        • In File type, choose the desired format (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or Bitmap).
        • Select Show more, then under Save file to, choose the folder where scans should be saved. If no folder is chosen, scans go by default to Pictures\Scans in the user folder.
      7. Select Scan at the bottom of the window.
      8. When the scan finishes, it is automatically saved in the selected folder. At the top of the app:
        • Select View to open and optionally edit the scan in the Photos app.
        • Or select Close to finish and prepare for another scan.
    3. Find scanned documents later
      1. Right-click Start and select File Explorer.
      2. Browse to the folder chosen in Save file to. If none was chosen, go to Pictures > Scans in the user folder.

For additional troubleshooting or HP-specific scan features (such as scanning directly from the printer’s control panel), use the HP documentation or support site for the exact Envy model.

    Dear Jane McGlone

I understand you would like to scan documents from your HP Envy printer to your Windows computer, and I appreciate you reaching out about this. At this point, I recommend that you review and try the steps provided in the AI-generated answer on your thread. In addition, please reply with the information requested by the Independent Advisor, as that information can help continue the troubleshooting more efficiently and reduce repeated questions.

To help narrow this down, could you please let me know the following:

    • Are you able to print from the same HP Envy printer to this computer, or is the issue only with scanning?
    • Is the printer connected by USB or Wi-Fi?
    • When you try to scan, do you receive any error message, or does the scanner simply not appear as an option?
    • Have you tried scanning from the HP Smart app, or only from Windows so far?
    • Could you also let me know which version of Windows you are using?

In the meantime, please try these steps:

1.Restart both the printer and the computer

    • After restarting, wait until the printer shows a ready/idle status before testing again.

    2.Confirm the connection path

    • If you use Wi-Fi, please make sure the printer and the PC are on the same wireless network.
    • If you use USB, try reconnecting the cable directly to the PC and avoid hubs during the test.

3.Check whether Windows currently sees the device

    • Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and check whether the HP Envy appears in the list. If it does not appear, try adding it again from that page.

    4.Try scanning from HP Smart

    • If HP Smart is not installed, it is available from the Microsoft Store.
    • Open HP Smart > select your HP Envy printer > look for the Scan option
    • Place a single page on the scanner glass and run a quick test scan

    5.Check the Windows scanning service

    • Press Win + R
    • Type services.msc and press Enter > find Windows Image Acquisition
    • Make sure the service is Running
    • If it is stopped, start it and test the scan again

    6. Download and install the correct HP driver/software for your exact printer model

    • Please visit HP’s official driver/software page, search for your exact HP Envy model, and download the recommended software/driver package for your Windows PC
    • After the installation finishes, restart the computer and test scanning again.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

I hope these steps help you scan documents from your HP Envy printer to your computer successfully. Wishing you a smooth experience with the setup and with using your Windows device for scanning tasks.

    Hello,

Can you provide me with the HP specific model number/name, so I can get you the necessary scanner driver to install first?
