Hi MALATESTA Bree [Amaroo Primary School]

From your description, I understand how annoying it is when you try to remove a contact from your Blocked senders list but Outlook.com just shows "Something went wrong" instead of saving.

Have you tried the steps in the Q&A Assist reply yet? And are you using a personal Outlook.com mailbox (ends with @outlook.com/@hotmail.com) or a work/school mailbox in Outlook on the web?

Meanwhile, please try the following:

1, Add the sender to Safe senders (so mail won’t go to Junk)

  • Sign in to Outlook on the web
  • Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email, add the sender under Safe senders and domains, then Save.

2, Refresh the web session

To force a fresh session: please sign out of Outlook.com, close the browser, reopen it, sign back in, then try saving the change again.

Please let me know if the Save error continues so I can guide you further. Thank you for your time and understanding.

In Outlook on the web/Outlook.com, removing someone from the blocked list is done from Junk email settings:

  1. In Outlook on the web or Outlook.com, select Settings (gear icon).
  2. Select Mail > Junk email.
  3. Under Blocked senders (and Blocked domains, if needed), select the address or domain to remove.
  4. Select the Remove option (trash/delete icon).
  5. Select Save.

If “Something went wrong” appears when saving:

  1. Refresh the browser and try again.
  2. Try a different browser or an InPrivate/Incognito window to rule out extensions or cached data.
  3. Remove only one blocked entry at a time and save after each change.
  4. If the problem persists, wait a few minutes and try again in case of a temporary service issue.

To help ensure messages from this contact do not go to Junk in the future, add the contact to Safe senders:

  1. In Settings > Mail > Junk email, find Safe senders and recipients.
  2. Enter the contact’s full email address (for example, someone@example.com) in Enter a sender or domain here.
  3. Select Add, then Save.

Messages from addresses in Safe senders and recipients are never sent to the Junk Email folder, though server-side filters may still apply.
