Try these steps in order on Windows 10:
- Check the correct output device
- Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
- Select the arrow next to the volume slider.
- Choose the speakers or headphones that should be playing sound.
- Check cables, power, and hardware volume
- Make sure speaker/headphone cables are firmly plugged in.
- If there are multiple 3.5 mm jacks, ensure the plug is in the output jack (often green or labeled headphone/speaker).
- Confirm the speakers are powered on.
- Turn up any volume knobs or buttons on the speakers themselves.
- Check Windows volume and mute
- Right‑click the Speakers icon on the taskbar and select Open Volume mixer.
- Make sure none of the sliders (Device or apps) are muted and that the volumes are turned up.
- Check that the device isn’t disabled
- Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Output, select your speakers, then select Device properties.
- Make sure the Disable checkbox is not selected.
- Set the correct default audio device (especially if using HDMI/USB)
- In the taskbar search box, type control panel and open it.
- Select Hardware and Sound > Sound.
- On the Playback tab, right‑click your speakers and select Set as Default Device, then select OK.
If there is still no sound after these steps, follow the remaining troubleshooting in the Windows audio article, including checking drivers and running the audio troubleshooter.
