Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
The missing “Try the new Outlook” toggle is usually caused by one of these:
- Unsupported Outlook/Windows setup
- New Outlook requires Windows 10 build 1809 (17763) or later.
- Only Microsoft 365 subscription channels are supported (Current, Monthly Enterprise, Semi-Annual Enterprise (preview)).
- Perpetual/non‑subscription Outlook (Outlook 2019/2021, one‑time Office purchase, standalone Outlook) does not support the new Outlook toggle.
- Admin or policy has hidden the toggle
- Admins can hide the toggle for work/school accounts.
- In classic Outlook, the
HideNewOutlookToggleregistry value underHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\Generalcontrols visibility:-
1= toggle hidden -
0= toggle visible (after restarting Outlook)
-
- Admins can also disable it via cloud policy in the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center using Hide the "Try the new Outlook" toggle in Outlook.
- Account type not supported
- POP or on‑premises Exchange accounts in the classic Outlook profile can prevent the toggle from appearing.
- Some work/school accounts and certain license types are not supported in new Outlook.
- Sovereign or restricted networks
- Devices that are or were part of a sovereign network cannot switch to new Outlook.
If the environment should be supported but the toggle is still missing:
- Verify Windows build and Outlook channel/version meet the requirements.
- Check with the Microsoft 365 admin whether a cloud policy is hiding the toggle.
- Check the
HideNewOutlookToggleregistry value and set it to0if present, then restart Outlook. - If still unavailable, collect the
.etllogs from%Temp%\Outlook Loggingand contact Microsoft Support as documented.
Copilot in Outlook is only available in the new Outlook experience and with eligible Microsoft 365 business licenses; if the toggle is blocked or unsupported, Copilot will not appear.
