Gmail contacts under new Outlook have disappeared

I've been using new Outlook (Microsoft 365) since last August or so without any issues. Now, about 3 days ago (3/20/26), my contacts from my Outlook Gmail account have disappeared. I receive the following message: With a plug icon, it says "This doesn't look right" and "Try Again".

I've tried exporting the contacts from my web Gmail account into a .csv file (even tried UFT-8 format) but nothing ever shows under Outlook. Any suggestions on how to restore my contacts?

I have the same issue, and none of my contacts from my personal Gmail account nor my Google Workspace account are showing in Outlook anymore.

The same “This doesn’t look right / Try again” appears when I try to see them. My issue started on the same date.

I have tried every possible alternative documented on the web, removed and added the accounts again, repaired the Outlook, reset the Outlook, even reinstalled. Nothing works.

Online I can see the contacts from my mobile phone, all of them, from all the accounts, but nothing on my PC. This worked fine until 4 days ago.

Any advice will be welcome. I have reported the issue from my OL app as well.

What a mess! Spent an hour and a half on chat with microsoft support. They ultimately decided that New Outlook has "regressed" (reps words) and was having trouble synching with contacts. Therefore, he switched me over to Classic Outlook but that's proven awful. The contacts came but I lost my calendar and my mail is still synchronizing to rebuild. Rep said it should take 1-2 hours but it's been at least 3/4 of a day! And then when the new mail arrives, it goes to an "Important" folder and not the Inbox. Some of the mail like airline mileage statements don't appear at all as I suppose those aren't deemed Important.

Also, for some reason I have not lost my OneDrive synchronization. Not sure how to remedy that without uninstalling and starting over.

This is such a mess! I have the same issue. Previously used GWSO with classic outlook but am migrating to new outlook. Actually like the speed and better layout of New Outlook but the contacts won't sync. 1 hour with tech support, countless deleting and reinstalling. I don't want to have to revert to classic as it is so slow for me and i like the idea of not having to work pst file of 40g.

Mail and calendars sync flawlessly.

Seems to be a 'known issue' according to support so is there any eta on when this might get fixed?

It sounds like Outlook isn’t syncing properly with your Gmail contacts, so first try removing the Gmail account from Outlook and then re-adding it, making sure contacts syncing is enabled. If that doesn’t work, import your CSV directly into Google Contacts first, confirm they appear there, and then let Outlook resync. As a last resort, clearing the Outlook cache or switching temporarily to the web version can help force the contacts to appear.

Please open People/Contacts in Outlook on the web.
- Do your contacts display normally there, or do you see the same “This doesn’t look right / Try again” message? If the message appears, please send a screenshot via Private Message.
Is this Gmail account a personal Gmail account or a Google Workspace (work/school) account?
