For a “school account is no longer active” message, only the organization that owns the school account can fix the license. Microsoft support cannot reactivate a school license directly.

    Use these steps:

    1. Contact the IT or technical support team at the school (often listed on the school’s main website) and provide the exact error message.
    2. Ask them to:
      • Confirm that the school account is still valid in their system, and
      • Reassign or renew a Microsoft 365/Office license to that account.
    3. If unsure who that is, contact the school’s help desk, human resources, or the person who originally gave the school account and password and ask who the Microsoft 365 administrator is.

If the account is no longer associated with the school (for example, after graduation) and the school will not reassign a license, use one of the options in the message (such as a personal Microsoft 365 subscription or the free web apps) instead.

For any password or sign-in issues with a work or school account, use the dedicated help link: Help with a work or school account password.

    Dear @Nicholas Ogden (Student),

The message “Your school account is no longer active” almost always means your education account no longer has an active Microsoft 365 Education license (or the account itself has been disabled).

Because this is a school‑managed (education) account, Microsoft does not control the license directly. All account status and licensing are managed by your school or university’s IT administrator.

To resolve this issue, I recommend that you contact your school’s IT department or Help Desk and ask them to:

Note: If you do not know who your school IT admin is, please follow this Microsoft document here How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

In the meantime, you may be able to continue working by using Microsoft 365 web apps in your browser or by signing in with another account that already has an active Office license.

Moreover, to help us narrow this down, could you please confirm the following:

    • Are you currently an active student or staff member at the school associated with this account?
    • Can you still sign in successfully at Microsoft365.com or office.com with your school email address?
    • Are you seeing this message on one device or multiple devices?
    • Whether other users at your school (such as classmates or colleagues) are experiencing the same issue?
    • Have you already contacted your school IT department, and if so, what feedback did they provide?

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools, and I appreciate your understanding of these limits.

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.

The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
