Use the Windows sign-in and PIN reset options on the laptop itself, then, if needed, reset the Microsoft account password online.
- On the laptop sign-in screen, try signing in with the Microsoft account password instead of the PIN (select Sign-in options and choose the key/password icon if needed).
- If the PIN is the problem and the laptop lets you reach the PIN reset flow:
- On the sign-in screen, select I forgot my PIN.
- Follow the prompts to verify the Microsoft account and create a new PIN. This uses the same mechanism as changing a PIN when already signed in, where Windows verifies the account and then lets a new PIN be set.
- If the PIN reset flow fails or the password is not accepted, reset the Microsoft account password first:
- Use another device (phone or another PC) to go to the Microsoft account security page or the password reset portal mentioned in the context and complete the password reset.
- After successfully changing the password, return to the new laptop and sign in with the updated password.
- Once signed in, set or change the Windows Hello PIN from Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello) > Change PIN or I forgot my PIN, and follow the directions to verify the account and create a new PIN.
If none of these options work and the device never accepts the account password or allows PIN reset, the last-resort option (as shown in a similar case) is to back up any data that can be replaced and perform a clean reinstall of Windows, then set up the device again and configure a new password/PIN during setup.
