I can do this easily in the old Outlook, but not the new one. How can I do this?

    Hi Michelle

    Thank you for contacting Q&A.

I understand you're having trouble locating the icons that indicate whether a message has been replied to or forwarded in the new Outlook for Windows. I did thorough research and testing from my end.

Here are a few important points to help clarify the situation:

    1. Ensure You're Using the Latest Version
Ensure that you're using the most recent version of the new Outlook, as Microsoft continues to roll out updates that affect interface features.
    2. Icon Appearance Has Changed
The reply/forward arrows may look different compared to the classic Outlook. In some cases, they appear as subtle indicators next to the subject line or only when hovering over the messageUser's imageNew Outlook version 1.2025.702.500 (Production). Orange arrow is "Reply" and the other arrow is "Forward"  User's image Classic Outlook version 2506 Build 18925.20092. Purple arrow is "Reply" and the Blue arrow is "Forward"
    3. Workaround: Use Outlook Classic If this feature is essential to your workflow, we recommend switching to Outlook Classic, where the reply/forward icons are still reliably displayed.  How to Switch to Classic Outlook
      1. Open New Outlook on your Windows device.
      2. Locate the toggle in the top-right corner labeled “New Outlook”.
      3. Click the toggle to turn it OFF.  User's image
      4. A confirmation prompt will appear, confirm that you want to switch back to Classic Outlook. User's image
      5. Outlook will restart, and you'll be returned to the Classic Outlook interface
If You Don’t See the Toggle
      1. Go to the Help tab in the ribbon.
      2. Select “Go to Classic Outlook” from the dropdown menu.  User's image
      3. If that option is missing, try restarting Outlook, or ensure that Classic Outlook is installed from the Microsoft Store.

We appreciate your patience as we continue improving the new Outlook experience. If you need assistance switching to Outlook Classic or have any other questions, feel free to reach out.

    Warm regards,

The icon WILL ONLY SHOW if you reply from your main account. it will not show if you reply using a shared mailbox. I've been trying to fix this for years and its not possible. Outlook its just bad.

I've actually found the solution to this a couple of months ago after years of tryinig things:

The fix to this issue in NEW OUTLOOK go to SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS > SHARED WITH ME > click on the account you want and click CONVERT to convert the shared mailbox into a full account.

After clicking it, restart outlook and the icon will show up everytime you reply/foward an email.

You may have to recreate your signatures tho.
