Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Hi Michelle,
Thank you for contacting Q&A.
I understand you're having trouble locating the icons that indicate whether a message has been replied to or forwarded in the new Outlook for Windows. I did thorough research and testing from my end.
Here are a few important points to help clarify the situation:
- Ensure You're Using the Latest Version
Ensure that you're using the most recent version of the new Outlook, as Microsoft continues to roll out updates that affect interface features. - Icon Appearance Has Changed
The reply/forward arrows may look different compared to the classic Outlook. In some cases, they appear as subtle indicators next to the subject line or only when hovering over the messageNew Outlook version 1.2025.702.500 (Production). Orange arrow is "Reply" and the other arrow is "Forward"
Classic Outlook version 2506 Build 18925.20092. Purple arrow is "Reply" and the Blue arrow is "Forward"
- Workaround: Use Outlook Classic If this feature is essential to your workflow, we recommend switching to Outlook Classic, where the reply/forward icons are still reliably displayed. How to Switch to Classic Outlook
- Open New Outlook on your Windows device.
- Locate the toggle in the top-right corner labeled “New Outlook”.
- Click the toggle to turn it OFF.
- A confirmation prompt will appear, confirm that you want to switch back to Classic Outlook.
- Outlook will restart, and you'll be returned to the Classic Outlook interface
- Go to the Help tab in the ribbon.
- Select “Go to Classic Outlook” from the dropdown menu.
- If that option is missing, try restarting Outlook, or ensure that Classic Outlook is installed from the Microsoft Store.
We appreciate your patience as we continue improving the new Outlook experience. If you need assistance switching to Outlook Classic or have any other questions, feel free to reach out.
