Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
The “Press and hold” human verification on the Outlook sign-up page can fail if something in the browser interferes with the control, even when the button is held correctly.
From a similar reported case, the root cause was an ad blocker or similar filtering component in the browser. Even when no obvious extension is installed, content-blocking features can still be active (for example, built-in tracking prevention, security/privacy tools, or security software injecting filters).
To get past the “Press and hold” test, try these steps:
- Temporarily disable any ad blocker or content filter
- If any security or privacy tools are installed (including system-wide ad blockers, antivirus web filters, or DNS filters), temporarily turn them off.
- If Edge is signed in and syncing, check on another device or profile for installed extensions that might sync down and block content.
- Use an InPrivate window in Edge
- Open Edge.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Nto open an InPrivate window. - Go to the Outlook sign-up page and try the “Press and hold” verification again.
- Try a different browser or device
- If possible, repeat the sign-up and “Press and hold” step in another browser (for example, Chrome) or on a different device/connection. If it works there, the issue is specific to the original Edge environment.
If the verification works after disabling blockers or in another browser/session, complete the account creation and then re-enable any protections.
