How can I add menu item Ink Replay to the ribbon on my Macbook Pro in Powerpoint? It's not showing up in the list of menu items in Preferences.

Ink Replay is only available in specific versions and editions of Office, and only after ink has actually been drawn.

Key points for Mac and PowerPoint 365:

    1. The Ink Replay feature itself is available to Microsoft 365 subscribers and is supported in PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac and PowerPoint 2021 for Mac.
    2. When using a stylus or touch device to draw ink on a slide, the Ink Replay option appears on the Draw tab of the Ribbon to rewind and replay ink strokes.
    3. On Mac, the newer experience is exposed as Replay/Rewind animations applied to ink. In PowerPoint 2021 for Mac, the “Replay” or “Rewind” animation can be applied to ink to get the drawing effect directly in presentations, and the timing of these animations can be adjusted.
    4. The Ink Replay button itself is not something that can be manually added via Ribbon customization on Mac if it does not appear; it is context‑sensitive and only shows when supported ink is present and the app version supports the feature.

To use the feature on Mac:

    1. Ensure the subscription is Microsoft 365 and that PowerPoint for Mac is on a version that supports ink replay (PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac or PowerPoint 2021 for Mac).
    2. On the Draw tab, select a pen and draw ink on the slide.
    3. Use Ink Replay on the Draw tab (if present) to replay strokes, or:
    4. Select the ink (e.g., with Lasso Select), go to Animations, and apply the Replay or Rewind animation to get the ink drawing effect during slide show.

If the feature is not visible at all, update Office to the latest version supported for the Mac OS in use; older builds or non‑subscriber editions may not expose Ink Replay.

    Hi, Stephanie Daniels

On Mac, this is often less about a missing checkbox and more about how PowerPoint is handling ink on that device, or a ribbon customization glitch. The Mac help content also shows separate pen/trackpad settings that can affect whether ink behaves correctly.

Besides the solutions provided by the Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:

In PowerPoint, go to Preferences > General > Pen, and turn off Use pen to select and interact with content by default, then fully close and reopen the app. That can stop the pen from acting like a selector and let ink behave properly again.

If you’re drawing on the MacBook trackpad, turn on Draw with Trackpad on the Draw tab first. This feature needs Office for Mac version 16.22.19021100 or later and a built-in or connected trackpad.

It is recommended that you reset the ribbon setup on Mac: PowerPoint > Preferences > Ribbon & Toolbar > gear icon > Reset selected Ribbon tab only or Reset all customizations, then restart PowerPoint. That can restore commands that disappeared after a customization issue.

Test it in Normal editing view, not during Slide Show. Microsoft says the replay button only works in Normal view.

If it still never appears, it is recommended that you send feedback from inside PowerPoint using Help > Feedback / I Have a Suggestion, because there have been Mac cases where the feature behaved inconsistently across builds.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
