I wanted to play a game through the xbox app but I got an error message saying the installation package could not be open for this Store Package Dependency Installer. I cannot play this game as I don't have this?

    Hi Toms Lomasonoks

I can understand how frustrating this is, especially when you’re just trying to install a game and the process stops on a Store dependency message.

At this point, I recommend that you review and try the steps provided in the AI generated answer on your thread. That reply typically include the most relevant checks for this scenario.

To help narrow this down, could you let me know a few details?

    • Could you please share the exact error message you’re seeing, or a screenshot of it if possible?
    • Could you let me know which game you’re trying to install?
    • Does this happen with just one game, or with any game you try to install from the Xbox app?
    • What Windows version/build are you using? You can check this under Settings > System > About.
    • Are you signed in to the same Microsoft account in both the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app?
    • Do you see any pending updates in Microsoft Store > Library?
    • Are you using a VPN, proxy, or third-party antivirus right now?

In the meantime, please sign out of the Microsoft Store, then sign back in with the same Microsoft account used in the Xbox app. After that, please try starting the installation again directly from the Xbox app and check whether the same error appears.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Follow these steps on Windows 10 to fix Store/Xbox game install issues related to missing or broken Store dependencies:

    1. Check Windows is up to date
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates and install any available updates. This ensures the Store framework and dependency components are current.
    2. Update Microsoft Store itself
Open Microsoft Store from the Start menu.
In Store, select See more (⋯) > Downloads and updates > Get updates.
If an update for Microsoft Store or Xbox/Game components is available, it will install automatically.
    3. Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters (if shown).
Select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.
Let it detect and fix issues with Store services and dependencies.
    4. Repair or reset Store/Xbox apps
Use Settings > Apps > Apps & features, select Microsoft Store and Xbox-related apps, then choose Advanced options and use Repair or Reset. This can restore missing dependency registrations.
    5. Reinstall the game from your Library
After the above steps, open Microsoft Store > See more > My Library, select the game, and choose Install. If the dependency installer was the issue, the game should now install correctly.

If the problem persists specifically with a game install, also see the Xbox game install troubleshooting article referenced below.
