    Hi jerome,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on what you described, it looks quite similar to an issue that has been reported on the Microsoft Service Health Status portal. It might be helpful to check that page and follow the updates or recommendations provided there.

I’ve also added a screenshot for easier reference.

This issue usually isn’t caused by you entering the wrong password. It happens when something else keeps trying to sign in with an outdated password, or when automated login attempts trigger Microsoft’s protection systems. Here are the steps that normally fix it:

    1. Check what’s trying to sign in

    Go to: https://account.live.com/Activity

    Look for:

    Repeated failed sign‑ins

    Old devices

    Unknown apps

If you see the same device failing over and over, that’s your culprit.

    2. Remove old or unused devices

    Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/devices

Remove any device you no longer use. Old phones, tablets, Outlook apps, or Windows Mail clients often keep retrying silently with an outdated password.

    3. If failures come from many different IPs

This can mean your account is being hit by brute‑force attempts. It’s unfortunately common with older Hotmail accounts. As long as you have two‑step verification enabled, you’re protected — Microsoft is just rate‑limiting the login attempts.

    4. Reset your password anyway

Even if you know the password is correct, resetting it forces every old device or app to stop trying with the wrong one.

    5. Clear your browser’s saved password

Sometimes the autofill entry is outdated or corrupted. Delete the saved password and re‑enter it once manually.
