I have windows 11 installed on my steam deck on the latest available build, but I am not seeing any options for enabling xbox mode in Settings > Gaming. According to posts iv seen online, xbox mode was officially released for windows 11 handheld devices. How do I get the official xbox mode on my steamdeck?

I tried using handheld companion and a couple other apps to make the steam deck controller work in Xbox remote streaming and PlayStation remote streaming but I have since uninstalled them as they didn’t work the way I needed them to.

yes I do see the Xbox app installed and I am signed into it with my Microsoft account. Pressing Win + G does not open the game bar. Also, searching game bar and clicking the game bar icon does not open it either.

Under device manager > computer I see:

ACPI x64 based PC

Valve Galileo

something I’m noticing is that the time has been incorrect multiple times now after booting into windows. Auto timezone and set time automatically is set in date and time settings, but the time was still not correct. I had to sync time, or toggle set time automatically for it to show the correct time.

1, Can you check if Xbox Game Bar is actually installed and enabled?

Go to “Settings > Apps > Installed apps”

Search for “Xbox Game Bar”

Then:

If found, click it > go to “Advanced options” > confirm it is not disabled

If not found, that means the component is missing entirely

2, Quick service check

Please try this:

Press Win + R, type: services.msc

Look for “Windows Time”

Is it:

Running?

Startup type = Automatic?

Initially I didnt see xbox game bar in installed apps, and I saw no way to install it. I searched for it in the microsoft store > library and saw it there. Clicking open triggered an update, then after updating it seemed to start working.

Please confirm two things:

1, Xbox Gaming Services status

Please check if Gaming Services is properly installed:

Open Microsoft Store

Search for “Gaming Services”

If you see an Install / Update button > apply it

If already installed > confirm no error appears when opening it

2, Windows feature availability check

Open Settings > System > Activation, does it show a normal activated license (no warnings or restrictions)?

Also, try this shortcut:

Press Win + F11

This is a direct shortcut to enter Xbox mode (if available)

When I search for gaming services in the Microsoft store, I don’t see anything specifically names gaming services. What shows up are things like the Xbox app and omen gaming hub.

I went ahead and did a reinstall of windows 11 just to confirm there were no issues with my install. After that, gaming services did show up in Microsoft store, however I’m still experiencing all the same issues with Xbox mode where I am not seeing the option in the settings>gaming to enable Xbox mode.

At the moment, there is no official timeline or announcement from Microsoft confirming that Xbox mode will be supported on Steam Deck (or available on all Windows handheld devices).
