Additional System Center tools and components for managing infrastructure, applications, and services
Hi @Philip Lowe
Although the Intel Core i3‑8100T uses the same LGA1151 socket, it is not compatible with the OptiPlex 7050 Micro.
The OptiPlex 7050 Micro is based on the Intel Q270 chipset and is designed to support only 6th and 7th generation Intel processors (Skylake and Kaby Lake).
The i3-8100T is an 8th generation Intel processor (Coffee Lake). While it physically fits the same LGA1151 socket, Coffee Lake processors require newer platform and BIOS support, typically associated with Intel 300-series chipsets, which the OptiPlex 7050 Micro does not provide.
As a result, upgrading from an i5‑6500T to an i3‑8100T will not work.
For the OptiPlex 7050 Micro, the highest officially supported upgrade options are typically:
- Intel Core i7-7700T
- Intel Core i7-7700
- Intel Core i5-7600T
- Intel Core i5-7500T
If you would like to use 8th generation processors such as the i3-8100T, a newer OptiPlex model such as the 7060 Micro would be required.
