Microsoft whiteboard availability in Microsoft education in Canvas LMS

We currently use Canvas as our LMS and with the recent update we can now directly link so reflect, teams etc through the "Microsoft education" link in the side bar. At this stage I do not see Microsoft whiteboard as an option, just the ones in the attached image.

Having the ability to embed it somehow in Canvas would be a great benefit, services like Canva and Padlet already can do this.

Am I missing something or is this not an option?

Cheers

Dear @Troy,

I completely understand how beneficial it would be to have Microsoft Whiteboard directly accessible within the Canvas sidebar alongside tools like Reflect and Teams. Your feedback regarding how this would improve your workflow is very valuable.

You are not missing anything; you are correct that Microsoft Whiteboard is not currently a standalone option within the "Microsoft Education" dashboard in the Canvas sidebar.

For more details, kindly refer to overview of Microsoft LTI apps | Microsoft Learn

The current Microsoft 365 LTI app for Canvas primarily includes the following experiences: OneDrive, Class Notebook, Teams / Teams Meetings, Reflect, Insights.

Please refer to this document: Use Microsoft Teams Assignments LTI app with Canvas | Microsoft Learn

Although it doesn't appear in the sidebar menu as shown in the image you provided, you can still integrate Whiteboard into your Canvas courses using these methods:

  • Teams Assignments: Microsoft Whiteboard is available through the Teams Assignments LTI app. If your institution has this enabled, you can attach a whiteboard to an assignment directly within Canvas.
  • External URL Link: You can create a whiteboard at whiteboard.office.com, copy the sharing link, and add it to a Canvas Module as an "External URL". For the best experience, I recommend selecting "Load in a new tab".

For more details, please refer to this document: What's new in Microsoft Whiteboard | Microsoft Support

Microsoft 365 LTI is a tool under development. While it currently focuses on core file management and health tools, the product team is continuously working to expand the integrated toolset.

I strongly recommend sharing your request for a sidebar shortcut directly with our product team via the Microsoft Feedback Portal. This helps us prioritize which tools are added to the Canvas integration next.

As a community moderator, I don't have the direct ability to change the software's design, but I can ensure you are guided to the right channel where the product developers will see your request.

I hope this clarifies the current options available to you! Please let me know if I can assist with anything else.
