so two days ago I was listening to Chat gpt and I made a stupid when I was trying to make my Wi-Fi on my laptop actually function better because I was having to do Wi-Fi hotspot through my phone to get a active internet connection. There was some issues going on with me actually connecting with my router.(still don't know why but think it has to do with the Wi-Fi not accepting a wpa3 password)

so I mistakenly without first downloading the hardware, I just went ahead and uninstalled it thinking it was going to remain somewhere on Windows...even if I just did a basic uninstall

I then reset it and boom I couldn't connect too or use the Wi-Fi anymore because I have no wi-fi drive (yay me) I rendered a $300 laptop useless and under a week!

I've been trying to find the correct download for the Wi-Fi driver so I can just upload it through my phone and put it directly onto my computer... but every time I throw a file on here it tells me I don't have the privileges to install the software and get bounced off track

any helpful suggestions?

    Hi ,

Search for msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot, and post it here so we can see the correct laptop model or desktop configuration.

    Thanks

Follow these steps to restore Wi‑Fi on the Windows laptop after uninstalling the wireless driver:

    1. Check if Windows reinstalled the driver automatically
      1. Select Search on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and open Device Manager.
      2. Expand Network adapters.
      3. If a wireless adapter is listed, but has a down arrow, press and hold (or right‑click) it and select Enable device.
      4. If it is listed without errors but Wi‑Fi still does not work, continue with the steps below.
    2. If no wireless adapter is listed, manually install the driver
Because the driver was uninstalled, Windows might not detect the adapter until the correct driver is installed.
      1. On another device with internet access, go to the laptop manufacturer’s support site.
      2. Download the latest Wi‑Fi / Wireless LAN driver for the exact laptop model and Windows version.
      3. Copy the driver installer to a USB flash drive.
      4. Plug the USB into the laptop and run the installer from File Explorer.
      5. If prompted about admin privileges, sign in with an administrator account on the laptop.
      6. Restart the laptop after installation, then check Settings > Network & internet > Wi‑Fi to see if Wi‑Fi appears.
    3. If the adapter shows but Wi‑Fi networks are missing
If the adapter is recognized but no Wi‑Fi networks are found:
      1. Make sure any physical Wi‑Fi switch on the laptop is turned On.
      2. Open Settings > Network & internet and confirm Wi‑Fi is turned On.
      3. Ensure the adapter supports the router’s band (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz) and is not filtering it out:
        • In Device Manager, right‑click the wireless adapter > Properties.
        • Go to the Advanced tab.
        • Look for Wireless Mode or Band and make sure it allows the frequency your router uses.
      4. If the router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, try connecting to the other band.
    4. If the adapter is detected but still malfunctioning, reinstall it cleanly
      1. In Device Manager, expand Network adapters.
      2. Right‑click the wireless adapter > Uninstall device.
      3. Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device and select Uninstall.
      4. Restart the PC: Start > Power > Restart.
      5. After restart, Windows will try to automatically install the driver. If it does not, install the driver from the USB as in step 2.
    5. If no network adapters are detected at all
      1. In Device Manager, if there is no wireless adapter under Network adapters, manually install the correct driver from the manufacturer as in step 2.
      2. After installation, return to Device Manager and confirm the adapter appears and is enabled.
      3. If a Problem number appears for the adapter in a wireless network report, use that Device Manager error code to troubleshoot further.
    6. If Settings or networking is badly broken
If network settings are crashing or the system is badly corrupted and there is a working Ethernet connection, performing an in‑place repair of Windows 11 using the official ISO can restore system components (including networking) without removing personal files or apps.

Once the correct driver is installed and the adapter is enabled, Wi‑Fi should reappear under Settings > Network & internet > Wi‑Fi, and connections to the router (using a supported security mode such as WPA2/WPA3) can be re‑established.
