When opening Edge I am asked to accept cookies (this is a recent development). In setting I have allowed all cookies; have not set delete all cookies. Edge is not retaining history. Edge and MS Windows 11 is up to date.

I want to retain the history and not have to accept cookies on every access.

Thank you. Let me continue further troubleshooting.

"Does the issue persist in a clean boot state?

Type “msconfig” (without quotes) and press Enter.

In the System Configuration window, select the Services tab.

Check the box next to “Hide all Microsoft services”. Ensure you do it carefully, and not disable all Microsoft services.

Click on “Disable all”.

Select the Startup tab and click on “Open Task Manager”.

In the Task Manager window, select each startup item and click on “Disable”.

Close Task Manager and click on OK in the System Configuration window.

Restart your computer.

Yes, AVG is the root cause. Please uninstall and let me know.

    Hi,

Do you use CCleaner or any such cleaning utility which cleans up stuff at every boot? Typically that causes issues like these.

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.

Edge repeatedly asking to accept cookies and not retaining history usually means either:

    • Cookies are being blocked (globally or for specific sites), or
    • Cookies/history are being deleted automatically when Edge closes.

    Check and adjust these settings:

    1. Open Edge.
    2. Select Settings and more (… ) > Settings.
    3. Go to Privacy, search, and services.
    4. Under Cookies:
      • Make sure Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended) is turned on.
      • Make sure Block third-party cookies is off if sites rely on third‑party cookies for sign‑in or consent.
      • Under Allowed to save cookies, add any sites where the cookie prompt keeps appearing.
    5. Still under Privacy, search, and services:
      • Check any setting that deletes browsing data on close (for example, if there is an option enabled to delete cookies or history every time the browser is closed). If enabled, turn it off so cookies and history are preserved.

If a site’s temporary cookie allowance was granted via a prompt, remember that this only lasts 30 days. After that, the site will prompt again. To remove and recreate such allowances:

    1. In Settings > Privacy, search, and services, select Cookies.
    2. Select See all cookies and site data.
    3. Under Cookies and data stored for sites you have browsed, expand the relevant site and select the Delete icon, then revisit the site and accept cookies again.

If embed or sign‑in content from services like OneDrive or other sites is failing, clearing cookies once and then re‑signing in can also resolve stuck consent loops.
